David Mattock

David Mattock is a qualified health and safety professional graduated from Cardiff University, with over 20 years experience
in the Oil and Gas Industry in Operations, Technical Services, Process Safety, OHS and Environmental Management. David
worked for Kuwait Petroleum (GB) from 1997 2005. He is a trainer and consultant specialising in health and safety consultancy
in the oil and gas sectors and has worked for organisations including the Oil and Pipelines Agency, Chevron, NuStar Energy,
Certas Energy, Advanced Insulation and EDF.
He provides competent person services such as the production of safety management systems and facilitating improved health
and safety culture within organizations. In addition to competent person services, he also runs high quality off the shelf and
tailored health and safety training courses. These include the NEBOSH International Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational
Safety, IOSH Managing and Working Safely, IOSH Working Safely for Oil Terminal Operatives, a fully accredited course
written specifically for the downstream oil industry, HAZAN, Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPS), bow-ties and also
Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA). All trainings provided are aimed at ensuring that the delegates fully understand
the subjects and use innovative methods to achieve this including role play and real workplace examples. David has trained over
1000 delegates over the years.
He is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and is on the UK Governments
Occupational Health and Safety Consultants Register (OHSCR).

COURSE METHODOLOGY
From an early stage in the course delegates will have the opportunity to work as a HAZOP team member
undertaking a HAZOP assessment of part of a generic process plant. Successive exercises will expand the technique to
more complex examples beyond individual delegates experiences.
Delegates will also participate in the analysis of high profile process industry accidents using material in the public
domain as well as case studies form the presenters own experience. At the end of the course delegates will identify
the opportunities missed to prevent a major off shore disaster using actual video footage as well as reconstruction
sequences.

COURSE METHODOLOGY
Apart from a limited number of essential classroom lecture sessions, the majority of participants time will be spent
as members of a HAZOP team. Each delegate will be afforded the opportunity to lead the team as it undertakes
assessments of generic process plant. There will be opportunities to apply the technique Batch processes as well as to
Procedures with critical assessment of team and HAZOP Leader performance.
