an op small, frail 1920s player Bill Johnston was consider

ed by many to have had the best forehand of all time, a stroke that he hit shoul
der-high using a western grip. Few top players used the western grip after the 1
920s, but in the latter part of the 20th century, as shot-making techniques and
equipment changed radically, the western forehand made a strong comeback and is
now used by many modern players. No matter which grip is used, most forehands ar
e generally executed with one hand holding the racquet, but there have been fine
players with two-handed forehands. In the 1940s and 50s, the Ecuadorian/America
n player Pancho Segura used a two-handed forehand to achieve a devastating effec
t against larger, more powerful players. Players such as Monica Seles or France'
s Fabrice Santoro and Marion Bartoli are also notable players known for their tw
o-handed forehands.[70]

Men's tournament structure
Masters 1000
The ATP World Tour Masters 1000 is a group of nine tournaments that form the sec
ond-highest echelon in men's tennis. Each event is held annually, and a win at o
ne of these events is worth 1000 ranking points. When the ATP, led by Hamilton J
ordan, began running the men's tour in 1990, the directors designated the top ni
ne tournaments, outside of the Grand Slam events, as "Super 9" events.[79] In 20
00 this became the Tennis Masters Series and in 2004 the ATP Masters Series. In
November at the end of the tennis year, the world's top eight players compete in
the ATP World Tour Finals, a tournament with a rotating locale. It is currently
held in London, England.[80]
In August 2007 the ATP announced major changes to the tour that were introduced
in 2009. The Masters Series was renamed to the "Masters 1000", the addition of t
he number 1000 referring to the number of ranking points earned by the winner of
each tournament. Contrary to earlier plans, the number of tournaments was not r
educed from nine to eight and the Monte Carlo Masters remains part of the series
although, unlike the other events, it does not have a mandatory player commitme
nt. The Hamburg Masters has been downgraded to a 500-point event. The Madrid Mas
ters moved to May and onto clay courts, and a new tournament in Shanghai took ov
er Madrid's former indoor October slot. As of 2011 six of the nine "1000" level
tournaments are combined ATP and WTA events.[81]
250 and 500 Series
The third and fourth tier of men's tennis tournaments are formed by the ATP Worl
d Tour 500 series, consisting of 11 tournaments, and the ATP World Tour 250 seri
es with 40 tournaments.[82] Like the ATP World Tour Masters 1000, these events o
ffer various amounts of prize money and the numbers refer to the amount of ranki
ng points earned by the winner of a tournament.[75] The Dubai Tennis Championshi

Basketball is a sport played by two teams of five players on a rectangular court
. The objective is to shoot a ball through a hoop 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter
and 10 feet (3.048 m) high mounted to a backboard at each end. Basketball is one
of the world's most popular and widely viewed sports.[1] The National Basketbal
l Association (NBA) is the most popular and widely considered to be the highest
level of professional basketball in the world and NBA players are the world's be
st paid sportsmen, by average annual salary per player.[2][3]
A team can score a field goal by shooting the ball through the basket during reg
ular play. A field goal scores three points for the shooting team if the player
shoots from behind the three-point line, and two points if shot from in front of
the line. A team can also score via free throws, which are worth one point, aft
er the other team was assessed with certain fouls. The team with the most points
at the end of the game wins, but additional time (overtime) is issued when the
score is tied at the end of regulation. The ball can be advanced on the court by
bouncing it while walking or running or throwing it to a teammate. It is a viol
ation to lift or drag one's pivot foot without dribbling the ball, to carry it,
or to hold the ball with both hands then resume dribbling.
As well as many techniques for shooting, passing, dribbling and rebounding, bask
etball teams generally have player positions and offensive and defensive structu
res (player positioning). Traditionally, the tallest and strongest members of a
team are called a center or power forward, while slightly shorter and more agile
players are called small forward, and the shortest players or those who possess
the best ball handling skills are called a point guard or shooting guard.
