Relevant Experience
Structural integrity assessment / Fitness-for-purpose assessment
Conducted various projects related to structural integrity assessment of piping (gas and
nuclear) systems. Expert in application of numerous industry codes such as ASME Sec. XI,
API 1104, API 579, R6, and SINTAP.
Computational fracture mechanics
Performed arbitrary (or natural) crack growth using the Advance Finite Element Analysis
(AFEA) method for PWSCC in dissimilar metal welds (DMWs) in PWR nuclear plants.
Conducted fracture analysis of nuclear piping using J-estimation schemes to determine
equivalent stress-strain curve for crack growth analyses.
Developed Z-factors for through-wall and surface cracks in nickel based alloy dissimilar
metal welds (DMWs).
Conducted fracture analysis of complex cracks in nuclear piping.
Developed engineering schemes to estimate nonlinear fracture mechanics parameters for
circumferential and axial surface cracks in nuclear piping.
Developed finite element based limit load solutions for cracked cylinders.
Performed detailed three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analyses using ABAQUS to
evaluate wall-thinned nuclear piping under combined loadings.
Experience in numerical simulation of ductile crack growth using various damage models,
e.g. Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) model, Computational Cell model. Recently

simulated dynamic ductile crack growth in gas pipelines using cohesive zone modeling.
Also has simulated crack growth in functionally graded materials (FGMs) using cohesive
zone modeling.
Leak-Before-Break (LBB) analysis
Conducted standard LBB analysis for various piping systems.
Performed leak-rate calculations using the SQUIRT code.
Conducted confirmatory calculations for U.S. EPR LBB analysis.
Developed methodology to calculate leak-rate through two different crack morphologies,
e.g, dissimilar metal weld with overlays.
Experimental fracture mechanics
Conducted small-scale fracture test for complex cracks using modified SENT and CT
specimens.
Performed various small-scale fracture tests including; tensile test, J-R test, CTOD test,
SENT test for base metals and welds. Coordinated and conducted wide-plate specimen tests.
Investigated the correlation between the Charpy energy and J-R curve.
Developed tensile properties for nickel based alloy welds elevated temperature using
induction heating.
Performed pipe tests (using four-point bending) for circumferential through-wall cracks in
dissimilar metal welds.
Conducted instrumented DWTT experiments for gas pipeline materials and have studied the
effect of fracture speed on fracture toughness.
Conducted hydrostatic pipe burst tests for axial through-wall and surface cracked pipes.
Utilized electric potential drop method to monitor crack growth in various specimens.
Application of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe to nuclear plants
Involved in developing ASME Code Case N-755 which describes the requirements for the
use of HDPE pipe for the construction of Section III, Division 1 Class 3 buried piping
systems for service water applications in nuclear power plants.
Performed confirmatory experiments for US NRC using PE 4710 HDPE.
Investigated tensile and slow crack growth (SCG) resistance of parent and butt fusion
materials.
Conducted viscoelastic FE analyses for bimodal high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material
for safety related nuclear piping applications.
