CONCEPTS&DEFINITIONS
GROSSMEDIANINCOMEFROMMAINJOB
Grossmedianincomeistheamountwhichdivides
the income distribution into two equal groups,
half having incomes above the median, half
havingincomesbelowthemedian.Themedianis
based on income before deductions from the
following sources: wages, salaries, commissions,
bonuses, and tips and net earnings from own
businessfortheselfemployed.
samplerepresentsapproximately5%ofall28,818
households in Bermuda, and will produce
aggregateresultsatthe95%confidencelevelwith
amarginoferrorof+/2.5%.
WEIGHTING
The survey data was weighted to reflect the
number of households and population counts
from the 2010 Housing and Population Census.
The population weights were derived by dividing
the 2010 age and sex population counts for
persons 16 years and older by the age and sex
countsfromtheLFS.
UNEMPLOYMENT
The unemployed comprise all persons 16 years
and older who during the reference period were
without work but were willing and able to work
forpayandwhowereactivelyseekingwork.
SURVEYMETHODOLOGY
SAMPLINGDESIGN
The primary objective of the survey was to
measureandassessthecurrentemploymentand
unemploymentsituationinBermuda.Thesample
designusedforthe2015LabourForceSurveywas
astratifiedtwostageapproachasfollows:
StageoneOnehundredandfiftycensus
districts (CD) were randomly selected
from the entire 245 CDs with each
stratifiedintooneofthreeincomegroups
Stage two random sampling of
households were selected from each CD
proportional to the total number of
dwellingsineachparish
RESPONSERATE
Bytheendofthesurveyperiod,1,493households
had completed the questionnaire. This
represented 99.5% of the completion target. An
over sample of 5,917 residential addresses was
usedbysurveyinterviewersinordertosecurethe
completiontargetof1,500households.
