RATIONALE

This course is a prerequisite for the subject Clinical Microbiology, Immunology &
Serology and Medical Parasitology.

SYPNOSIS

In this course, the student will be introduced to the basic exposure to


microorganisms. Students will learn and will be introduced to the characteristics
and reproductive ways of microorganisms. Student will be also introduced to the
handling of microorganisms in microbiology laboratory.

At the end of the course , students will be able to:

elucidate orally and in written form the fundamental concept of microbiology.


explain in detail bacterial, viral and fungal cells and it morphology, function and
characteristics with and aid of labeled diagram.
explain in detail the ways to control microbial growth by physical and chemical methods.
clarify individually and in group the difference ways of reproductive mechanisms of
fungal cells.
explain orally and in written the various taxonomy of microorganisms.
identify microscopically the various types of bacterial and fungal cells and its movements.
perform individually and in group the procedure of pure culture and staining of
microorganisms.
perform individually and in group the procedure of pure culture and staining of
microorganisms.
practice individually and in group the observation of biochemical reactions performed by
various bacterial species in Microbiology laboratory.
