Take all reasonable steps to secure full and regular attendance at school of the students under
the teachers supervision.
Keep accurate attendance records and report absent students to the principal as prescribed by
the regulations.
Communicate regularly with parents in accordance with policies established by the governing
body.
Keep such records as required and permit the section of those records by governing bodies.
Assist in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan.
Serve, to the extent reasonable, on committees establish with the school to improve student
achievement and success.
Implement programs and courses
Maintain order and discipline and an atmosphere conducive to learning in the school or room in
the teachers charge.
Require any pupil, during any activity in the school or room in the teachers charge, who is
persistently disobedient, or defiant, or acts in a manner likely to affect the welfare or education
of other pupils, to report immediately to the teachers superior.
Core Competencies:
Fluency in the Mikmaq Language
Provincial Teacher Certification
Experience working in an Aboriginal education environment an asset
Must abide by Sipeknekatik Band policies.
*If it is deemed that all qualifications are equal, preference will be given to registered
persons of Aboriginal Descent. Pay is to be negotiated and set forth by Chief and Council
and successful applicant is subject to a three (3) month review*
