WELCOME TO SALZBURG!
Music Celebrations International is pleased to present the second-annual Mozart International Choral Festival, June 29
– July3, 2011. The festival will be a combined choir under the direction of Dr. Eph Ehly and Professor Janos Czifra,
accompanied by orchestra in the historic Salzburger Dom.
As a lecturer, clinician and conductor, he has appeared in 48 states, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, several
countries throughout Europe and presented on more than 100 college and university campuses.
Dr. Ehly received his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder, his Master of
Music degree from George Peabody College, Nashville, Tennessee, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of Nebraska-Kearney. Notable teachers he has studied with include Jean Berger, Julius Hereford,
Warner Imig, Louis Nicholas, Lynn Whitten and Vincent Persichetti.
Born in Hungary, JANOS CZIFRA has been the director of music of the
Salzburg Dom since 1989. Apart from his liturgical services, Janos Czifra has
arranged the music for the choir and the orchestra of the cathedral for
internationally recognized big events such as the visit of the Pope to Salzburg,
Episcopal consecration and jubilees, and festivals of sacred music and
symposiums.
Numerous concert tours led Janos Czifra and the Cathedral Choir to the USA,
to Japan and to various European cities. Due to his international reputation,
Janos Czifra has repeatedly been invited as conductor or juror in Europe and
overseas. In 2002 Janos Czifra was admitted into the European Academy of
Science and Arts and thus given the title "Professor ". It is personally highly
important for him to work together with musical guests in Salzburg.
FESTIVAL TOUR ITINERARY
Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace, is a delight from the first sight of the outline
of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the symbol of the power of the prince-
archbishops. The city’s picturesque streets with their wrought-iron signs,
its spacious squares with sculptured fountains and the noble architecture of
its buildings inspired by bishops with a passion for construction, leave
memories which linger for years.

Mozart International
Choral Festival
Dear friends,
The festival will feature a combined choir of select SATB singers from every age group: high
school, college to adult accompanied by a wonderful professional Austrian orchestra. Imagine
singing in the very venue for which Mozart himself composed numerous works of sacred music for
the city of Salzburg!
A once in a lifetime experience for many of your singers, this festival can be the starting
point or the end of a longer European tour.
I look forward to seeing you in Austria and sharing in this experience together.
My warmest regards,
eph ehly

Salzburger Dom
The Salzburg Cathedral – in German, the Salzburger Dom – is a 17th century baroque cathedral
dedicated to Saint Rupert of Salzburg.
The site occupied by the Salzburg Cathedral was probably a sacred
place for sacrifices in Celtic as well as Roman times. The first
cathedral was built under Saint Vergil of Salzburg, who might have
used foundations by St. Rupert. The first Dom was recorded in
774.
The finished church is 466 feet long and 109 feet high at the
crossing/dome. The baroque style of St. Rupert's can be seen in the
choir and the nave.
The Salzburg Cathedral was partially damaged during World War II when a single bomb crashed through
the central dome over the crossing. Repairs were somewhat slow to take place, but restoration was
complete by 1959.
Among the precious objects to be found in Salzburg's Cathedral are the baptismal font in which
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized, the majestic main organ, surrounded by angels playing
instruments and crowned by Rupert and Virgil, as well as the magnificent Cathedral portals made by
Scheider-Manzell, Mataré and Manzú.
