SPEED-READING TECHNOLOGY

DAVID EVANS
(Microcomputer Applications for Business and Economics)

What if you could read the entire

Harry Potter series in just over 18
hours?

now you can.

Two months ago, after 3 years of under the radar

development Spritz Technology, Inc. has finally
revealed their revolutionizing software program:

TRADITIONAL READING
1.

Traditional reading requires the movement of ones

eyes from word to word in a straight line

2.

As the eye moves to each new word, this motion is

known as a saccade

3.

Once the new word is located, the human brain locates

the Optimal Recognition Point or the ORP within the
word

4.

It is not until this point when the brain begins to

actually process a word for meaning & content

Traditional reading causes just 20% of your time

reading to be spent actually processing content
while the remaining 80% is spent physically moving
your eyes...
UNTIL NOW!

SPEED-READING WITH SPRITZ

Spritzs new technology allows a reader to pinpoint the contents
ORP right where they are looking, eliminating the need for the
eye to move.
Now the words are placed EXACTLY where the brain wants them to
be, and the process becomes extremely comfortable and efficient.

The effects of Spritzs one-word alignment:

220wpm (traditional) vs. 330wpm (Spritz):

Now, lets try traditionally reading an excerpt:

Raindrops the size of bullets thundered on the castle
windows for days on end; the lake rose, the flower
beds turned into muddy streams, and Hagrid's
pumpkins swelled to the size of garden sheds. Oliver
Wood's enthusiasm for regular training sessions,
however, was not dampened, which was why Harry
was to be found, late one stormy Saturday afternoon a
few days before Halloween, returning to Gryffindor
Tower, drenched to the skin and splattered with mud.

The majority of everyone read this at the

average speed of 220 words per minute.
Others may have read it a little faster, but the
average college-reader reads somewhere
between 200-400 words per minute.

Now, lets try Spritzing at 250wpm:

Here is what you just read in less than 40 seconds:

Welcome to spritzing, we are starting you out at 250 words per
minute, a little more than the average reading speed of 220
words per minute. Dont worry well go faster in a moment. In
fact, many people are already spritzing at over 1000 wpm. At
that speed you could read a 1000 page novel in around 10 hours.
What could you do if you doubled your reading speed With the
same or better comprehension? What if you tripled it? Our goal
is to get the entire world reading with Spritz and have 15% of
the worlds textual content read with our method by 2016.
Select a new speed on the right when youre ready or click on
one of the flags below to try spritzing in another language.

Easy, now lets speed it up to 400wpm:

Here is what you just read in less than 20 seconds:

Let's take a moment here at 400 words per minute to discuss
how far you have come. In the time you have started reading
with Spritz, just a few minutes ago, you are already spritzing at
least 60% greater than you were reading before. Now, consider
how you are currently reading on your mobile device. With
Spritz there is no longer a need to scroll endlessly to read all of
your content or to pinch and poke at your device to size correctly
for reading. Publishers can create very dense versions of their
content that could actually be read comfortably on a mobile
device with Spritz. In fact, with Spritz, current mobile devices
are now large and clunky by comparison, you definitely won't
need all screen space for reading content!

And now, lets speed it up to 600wpm:

Here is what you just read in less than 18 seconds:

600 words per minute. Let's take a moment to talk about what
that means in terms of speed. The average news story in the
United States is about 400 words depending upon the source.
That means you could read two full news stories at this speed in
about a minute. Emails are much shorter. In fact, the software
that Spritz built for Samsung for Mobile World Congress 2014,
the entire inbox could be spritzed through at this speed in under
3 minutes. If you read a lot of emails, Spritz could give you back
just a little bit of time in your day. What you choose to do with
that time is entirely up to you. Take up a new hobby like fencing,
climb Mt. Everest, or just spend some more time with your kids
and loved ones. Spritz helps you to be more efficient so you can
spend more time doing what you want to do.

SPEED-READING WITH SPRITZ

Reading at such a fast and constant rate can open doors to
new levels of efficiency for a reader:
Reading at a common/basic rate of 350 words per minute, one can read Harry
Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (257,045 words) in just 12.3 hours.
Those capable of handling the lightning-fast 1000wpm setting can read the
novel in just 4.3 hours, and the entire series consisting of 1,084,170 words in
just 18 hours.

LIMITATIONS OF SPRITZ

Personal cognitive ability to recognize words and process their meaning

Loss of traditional readings value

Using the bathroom

Attention span (tested average of 2 hours)

Stopping and finding place where last left off

Not fully-developed yet to run on iOS or Android products, and currently

only available for the upcoming generation of Samsung products (Galaxy
S5 & Gear 2 Smartwatch). Further development is expected soon.

HINT There are similar apps available for iOS, like Velocity, Flash Reader, RSVP
apps, and SprintReader. However, none compare to Spritz.
