Ceremony

Presenter

SuAnn Schroeder, WAFLT President-elect

Honored Attendee

Lynn Sessler Neitzel

WAFLT 2015 Distinguished Language Educator
WAFLT will recognize members who have received special
awards and recognitions during the past year, including
recipients of the Distinguished Language Educator Award,
Anthony J. Gradisnik Award, Frank M. Grittner New Teacher
Award, and ISE Language Matters Award.

Linda L. Egnatz, Spanish

Teacher at Lincoln-Way North
High School in Frankfort, IL,
served as the 2013-14
President of the Illinois
Council on the Teaching of
Foreign Languages and is
presently ICTFL Webmaster.
As part of ICTFL, she led or
co-led initiatives including
bringing ACTFL Oral
Proficiency Training to Illinois
and forming the Training for
Assessment of Language Learning in Illinois (TALL-IL)
program. She testified on behalf of the Illinois Seal of
Biliteracy, helping Illinois become the third state with such
a program. A recent project she has found especially
meaningful has been as a trainer/consultant to the Sac &
Fox Nation and the Sauk Language Revitalization project.
Egnatz believes that she teaches a valuable life skill
rather than a school subject. She says, If I hope to inspire
students to put in the practice and effort necessary to
achieve proficiency in another language, they need to
know that speaking that language has relevance outside
of the classroom walls. My job is to help my students
visualize themselves using the Spanish language ... in
their community, in their career, and perhaps outside of
their country.

Keynote Address
Mission Possible:
Globe Nation

According to Egnatz, the most important role we play

for our students is the visionary. The 21st century world
offers students many opportunities, and as language
educators we must inspire them to see themselves in that
world; communicating and interacting in culturally
appropriate ways as global citizens in a language not
originally our own, but rather adopted and loved for its ability
to connect with others. In this keynote address, 2014 ACTFL
Teacher of the Year Linda Egnatz will inspire us to become
those visionaries for our students.

Clockwise from top left above, students visiting the Ancient Americas Exhibit at Chicagos Field
Museum of Natural History, Miamis Ancient Spanish Monastery, the oldest building in the Western
Hemisphere, and Jesus Helguera's iconic painting depicting the legend of Popocatpetl and Iztacchuatl at
Chicagos National Museum of Mexican Art.

We at

Spanish on Location have long believed that unless students get interested

early, in the people, history and culture of the places where Spanish is spoken, they
will not stay enrolled in Spanish for the joy of conjugating irregular verbs.
To get them interested, and keep them interested, the study of Spanish needs to be fun,
interesting and relevant, and the best way to make it so, is to get students out of their zip
codes, with teachers who can connect and reinforce what their students are learning in class
to what is happening in the real world. This is no less important to a language student than
looking through a microscope would be to a student of biology. Seeing is believing.
For further information about our short, affordable, but meticulously planned trips to Chicago,
Miami and New York City, please visit our web site, SpanishOnLocation.com or better yet,
call us at

855.628.2894.

We sincerely believe that our comparatively inexpensive Spanish field trips, developed and
refined over 30 years, are the very best available anywhere, and we look forward to
demonstrating that to you.

FAQs
What is the WAFLT payment address?

I can only attend Friday. Is there a special Friday-only

option?

Payments can be mailed to WAFLT P.O. Box 1493

Appleton WI 54912

WAFLT registration is available for Friday/Saturday or

Saturday only. There is no Friday-only option.

What is WAFLTs phone number?

The Friday workshop I wanted to attend is full. Is there
a waiting list?

Because our organization is run entirely by volunteers, we

do not have a central office. For registration-specific
concerns, please email us at registration@waflt.org.

We do not maintain a waiting list, but occasionally take

late cancellations which may make tickets available.
Check at the registration table to see if seats in the
workshop you would like to attend have become available.

What if my school district is paying for my

registration and mailing a check?
Start your registration online and print your payment
receipt. Then, give the receipt to your district to write the
check. We recommend that you ask your district how
much time is needed to allow sufficient time for
processing. To avoid late registration fees, checks must
arrive no later than the Friday before the conference.

Is there a Thursday-only option?

Yes. Consult the online registration form for the most
current rate information.
I registered using my personal credit card and need to
submit a receipt to my district for reimbursement.

Can I attend the conference without registering?

Login to your account at waflt.org. Click on the My

Receipts link at the left side of the screen. You may view
and print a receipt from that link.

No. All attendees must register for the conference.
