“God placed in the midst of the land His holy

temple.”

The Lord said to Moses - “And let them make me a

sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. According
to all that I shew (show) thee, after the pattern of the
tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments
thereof, even so shall ye make it.” Ex.25:8,9.

“And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will

be their God. They shall know that I am the Lord their
God, that brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,
that I may dwell among them: I am the Lord their
God.” Ex.29:45,46.
“The earthly sanctuary was built by Moses according
to the pattern shown him in the mount. It was ‘a
figure of the time then present, in which were offered
both gifts and sacrifices,’ its two holy places were
‘patterns of places in the heavens’. Heb.9:23. Christ
in His Sanctuary, p.36,37.

“God could not bear to be separated from His own,

and so His love devised a plan whereby He might live
among them! He would go with them on their
journey’s to and fro in the wilderness, and at last lead
them into the promised land. God would be with His
people again. True, there was a separating wall now,
for God dwelt in the sanctuary, and man could not
approach Him directly. But God is as near as sin will
permit. He is ‘among’ His people.”

Service, by M.L. Andreasen, 16,17

“It was Christ who planned the arrangement for the

first earthly tabernacle.”
C.O.
L. p.349.

“Christ was their instructor. As He had been with

them in the wilderness, so He was still to be their
teacher and guide. In the tabernacle and the temple
His glory dwelt in the holy Shekinah above the mercy
seat. In their behalf He constantly manifested the
riches of His love and patience. - - - Through the
teaching of the sacrificial service, Christ was to be
uplifted before the nations, and all who would look
unto Him should live.” Prophets & Kings, p.18,19.

“After the work of the tabernacle was finished, ‘a

cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the
glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses
was not able to enter into the tent of the
congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and
the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And when
the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the
children of Israel went onward in all their journeys.
But if the cloud was not taken up, then they
journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. For
the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day,
and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the
house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.’ The
tabernacle was constructed so as to be taken to
pieces, and borne with them in all their journeyings.”
See EX.40:34-38. S.G. Vol.4 p.10.

“The placing of the tabernacle in the midst of the

camp of Israel was an illustration, an object lesson
and suggestion, of the truth that He would dwell in
the midst of each individual. Eph. 3:16-19.

“Some of that nation, in every age, saw in the

sanctuary this great saving truth. But as the body, in
all ages, Israel missed this thought: and stopping only
with the though of His dwelling in the tabernacle in
the midst of the camp, they came short of having His
own personal presence dwelling in their individual
lives. Accordingly their worship became only outward
and formal, rather than inward and spiritual.
Therefore their own lives continued unreformed and
unholy; and so those who came out of Egypt missed
the great thing which God had for them, and ‘fell in
the wilderness’. Heb.3:17-19.”

Christian Perfection,

Priests were ordained to minister before the Lord.

“For every high priest taken from among men is

ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he
may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.” Heb.5:1
Its services provided an object lesson of the plan of
salvation and prefigured the coming of the Messiah.

“Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of

divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there
was a tabernacle made; the first, where in was the
candlestick, - - table of showbread; which is called the
sanctuary (holy place). And after the second veil, - -
the Holiest of all; - - the golden censer, and the ark of
the covenant overlaid roundabout with gold, wherein
was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod
that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And
over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercy
seat. Now when these things were thus ordained, the
priest went always into the first tabernacle
(tablernacle of the congregation), accomplishing the
service of God. But into the second went the high
priest alone once every year, not without blood,
which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the
people.”

Heb. 9:1-7.

“For the law having a shadow of good things to come,

and not the very image of the things, can never with
those sacrifices which they offered year by year
continually make the comers thereunto perfect. - - For
it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats
should take away sins.” Jesus, “Wherefore when he
cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and
offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou
prepared me. - - Then said He, Lo, I come to do thy
will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may
establish the second. By the which will we a
sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus
Christ once for all.” Heb.10:1,4,5,9,10.

“The typical system of sacrifices and offerings was

established that through these services the sinner
might discern the great offering, CHRIST. But the
Jews were so blinded by pride and sin that but few of
them could see farther than the death of beasts as an
atonement for sin; and when Christ, whom these
offerings prefigured came, the could not discern Him.
The ceremonial law was glorious; it was the provision
made by Jesus Christ in counsel with His Father, to
aid in the salvation of the race. The whole
arrangement of the typical system was founded on
Christ. Adam saw Christ prefigured in the innocent
beast suffering the penalty of his transgression of
Jehovah’s law.

“The rites and ceremonies of the law were given by

Christ Himself, who, enshrouded in a pillar of cloud b
day, and fire by night, was the Leader of the host of
Israel.” E.G.W. BC7a, pp.318,319.
