BHAGAWATI SEVA (During Kataka Month) Sravana Somavar

Wednesday July 16 to Friday August 15, 2015

August 2015

August 17, 24, 31 & September 7, 2015

Dakshinayana marks the southern transition of sun

for a period of six months. These six months are the
night time for the Gods and Goddesses. The first of
these six Hindu months is especially important for
the worship of Devi (the Universal Mother).
Bhagawati Seva which is worship of the Devi in the
Kerala Tantric tradition, will be performed daily
from July 16 through August 15 at 7:15 PM. All
devotees are encouraged to participate by way of
Lalitha Sahasranama recitation, Devi Stotram and
Devi Namaskaaram.
Sponsorship: $ 31 per day; $ 101 for all Fridays during the Kataka month
$ 501 for the whole month Bhagawati Seva (During Kataka Month)

The Hindu Lunar month of Sraavan is considered very auspicious for

religious observances. The Mondays during this month is very special for
Lord Siva. Devotees of Siva observe fast that day and offer their prayers
to Him. Lord Siva is very easily pleased by the Abhishekams offered by
His devotees. Abhishekam to the chanting of Rudram, Trishati Archana
(Offering Bilwa Patra and flowers chanting the 300 names of the Lord),
reciting Siva Stotras and the Jaya Jagadeesha Hare Aarati are some of the
highlights of the Puja that will be performed every Monday during the
Sraavan month.

Onam (Sravana in Sanskrit) is also

the day of Vamana Jayanti. It is on
that day that Lord Vishnu took the
form of a dwarf (Vamana) to
suppress the ego of an otherwise
good and popular king Mahabali
(Grandson of Prahalada). The king
loved his subjects very much and
hence asked the Lord to allow him
to visit his subjects once a year on
that day. Hence this day is celebrated in Kerala as the return of their
favorite king. The homes are beautifully decorated and there is an ambience
of festivity everywhere in anticipation of the Return of the King. Boat
races, floral decorations, cultural performances like Mohini Aattam,
Kathakali, Chaakiyaar Koothu, music concerts are common during this
festival. Some communities consider this to be the beginning of a new
year. Temples in Kerala have special pujas on this day. SSVTs Special
Onam Feast will be on Sunday, August 30, 2015.

Pavitrotsavam

Wednesday, August 26 Friday, August 28, 2015

Pavitrotsavam is an annual ritual performed in Vishnu temples (that

follow the Paancharaatra Aagama or the Vaikaanasa Aagama) to make
up for the acts of omission and commission in the temple rituals during
the course of the year. At the conclusion of this three-day ritual, Pavitram
(Holy thread) that has been offered to the Lord is distributed as Prasadam
to the sponsors.

Mandalabhishekam which signifies the completion of the Jeernodharana
Kumbhabhishekam was celebrated in a grand fashion, on Sunday, July
19, 2015. Eighteen months of planning and execution of Jeernodharana
Kumbhabhishekam went on well. This could not have been possible
without the sincere volunteerism and help from all devotees, who helped
by volunteering, sponsoring and participating in the functions. On behalf
of the Board of Trustees, I would like to express my heart felt thanks to all.
Together, we can do lots of things to grow our temple for the benefit of our
community.
