    Programme Goal In the postgraduate courses (master’s and doctoral courses), professionals from developing and threshold countries earn qualifications that enable them to act as future decision makers and cooperation partners with Germany. This takes place in postgraduate courses in all areas of knowledge relevant to the development of countries that play a significant role in development cooperation and solving global problems. The students from developing countries who participate in the programme are recognised as co-actors in this joint learning process. In addition, targeted capacity development, in the sense of promoting the development of human resources and organisations in the partner countries, aims at creating sustainable developmental effects. To achieve this, the postgraduate courses impart the skills and qualifications programme participants require in their endeavours to steadily increase the performance and development capabilities of their work environments. Alumni are to act as change agents, passing on their experience and newly acquired knowledge to others and as multipliers actively working within international networks to solve national and regional, as well as global challenges. The goal is for alumni to initiate and accompany middle and long-term development processes and, as such, make a contribution towards achieving the U.N. Millennium Development Goals. At the same time, the postgraduate courses at the German universities (and in cross-border courses, the partner universities in developing countries, as well) make a contribution towards their own further internationalisation. In this case, participants from the partner countries are promoting a south-north knowledge transfer, in which their regional-specific know-how is passed on to students, lecturers and researchers at the German universities, thereby strengthening the development-related competencies of these institutions. Target Group for Scholarships Foreign Professionals: with a first academic degree (in general: a four-year university degree) and at least two years of relevant work experience in a government ministry, central administrative office, subordinate authority or agency, a chamber of commerce or industry, an enterprise, business or firm, or as manager or employee of an NGO or development cooperation project with excellent perspectives for professional reintegration upon return to the home country.

    DAAD Scholarship for Development-Related Postgraduate Master Courses (EPOS)

    (Intake: 2016/2017)
    The scholarship offers foreign graduates from development and newly industrialised countries from all
    disciplines and with at least two years' professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate or
    Master's degree at a state or state-recognised German university, and in exceptional cases to take a
    doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master's/PhD) in Germany. The portfolio includes
    38 programmes mainly in the fields of economic sciences, development cooperation, engineering,
    regional planning, agricultural and forest sciences, environmental sciences, medicine and public
    health, social and political sciences.
    What is supported?
    Individual scholarships that are listed on the "List of all Postgraduate Courses With Application
    Deadlines" (see www.daad.de/ast or attachment)
    Duration of funding
    12 to 36 months, depending on study programme
    Value
    Depending on academic level, monthly payments of 750 for graduates or 1,000 for doctoral
    candidates, payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance, travel allowance,
    unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding
    What requirements have to be fulfilled?
    Candidates have to have a Bachelor degree (usually a four-year course) in a respective subject
    Candidates have to prove that their motivation is development-related
    Candidates are expected to take on social responsibility and initiate and support processes of
    change in their personal and professional environment after their training/scholarship
    The last academic degree (usually a Bachelor's degree) should have been completed no longer
    than six years ago
    At least two years' of relevant professional experience
    Profound language skills, depending on chosen study programme
