Review

Phonics

This week in phonics we will be


moving into our final unit in Oxford
Phonics World 2. This is a small unit
for the next two weeks, so during this
unit we will begin our comprehensive
review to get the students ready for
end of semester testing. The unit
focuses on the letter blend ut, ub, and
um. We will play a variety of games
such as, bowling, bingo, spelling
races, sumo game, and find the
flashcard. During these games the
students will practice reading, writing
and speaking the new sounds and
vocabulary with these letter blends.
We will work through the final unit and
the last review in both workbooks.
When we complete the workbooks I
will work with students who have
missed days and ensure that all units
are complete.

Activity Time

Activities and Games:


This week we are going to play an interview game with food questions what is your
favourite food? What did you eat for dinner? What do you prefer, (a) or (b) etc.
We are also going to play swat for different types of fruits and vegetables using
flashcards.
We are going to play the recipe game using chop, slice, shake and mix actions.
Food fishing is another game we will play where the students have to find the correct food
flashcard attached to magnetic fish and hook it up.
This week we will be making menus for imaginary restaurants and role playing with them
using props from around the classroom i.e. table, chairs, plates, cutlery, cups and plastic
food.
We will be doing a spelling test on the following words: the, this, that, bug, sun, mud, cup,
up.
At the end of the week we are going to do a taste test where I will prepare examples of
salty, sweet, sour and spicy in bowls. Students are blindfolded have to guess which is
which.
Worksheets:
This week each student will complete a work sheet where they have to match pictures of
food to the correct word. We will also complete worksheets where the class have to fill in
missing letters and to draw and label their own menus.
