Simple Present Tense

It is used to express an action in present time, habitual or usual


actions or daily event or universal fact. It is used to express an
action in present time which is usually done on a regular basis.
Rules. 1st form of verb or base verb is used as main verb in
sentence.
Examples:

1.
I brush my teeth everyday.
2.
A lion has four legs.
3. Nemel gets up early in the morning.
4.
We speak English in school.
5. My uncle sleeps eight hours every night.
6.
Ranz play basketball every afternoon.
7.
The sun sets in the west.
8.
Our family travels to Ormoc every month.
9.
The vans for La Paz leave every one hour.
10. Angel doesnt play football.

Simple Present Tense


It is used to express an action that happened or completed in past, usually
a very little time before speaking, or action which is just completed. Time of
action is not specified in terms of long time ago or short ago but it make a
sense that the action has done a little time ago. For example, a person
says, In general, the Past Tense is used to talk about something that started and finished at a definite time in the past.
Rules: 2nd form of verb (past simple) is used as main verb in the positive
sentences and base form is used in negative and interrogative sentences.

Examples:

It rained yesterday.
2. My brother played dota all night.
3. I went to the beach.
4. You didnt close the door.
5. Ernest wanted to go to Manila with us.
6. We didnt do our exercises this morning.
7. I often brought my lunch to school.
8. I did my homework last night.
9. Last year, Kaety travelled to Santorini, Greece.
10.Danna saw a movie yesterday.

Simple Future Tense


It is used to express an action which has not occurred yet and will
occur after saying or in future. For example, I will go to zoo

tomorrow, in this sentence the person intend for tomorrows visit


to zoo. In short, these sentences express actions which will be
done in future.
Rules. Auxiliary verb will is used in sentence. 1st form of verb
or base form is used as main verb in sentence.
Examples:

Father will buy a new car.
2. She will give me a math reviewer tomorrow.
3. Xander will visit his girlfriend next week.
4. He will return in three hours.
5. The robotics group will not perform next school year.
6. Mary will turn eighteen this year.
7. The contest will take place on February 3.
8. We will paint our room blue.
9. Sir Dodie will finish his report later today.
10.Joseph will finish his homework in twenty minutes.

Present Progressive Tense


It is used to express a continued or ongoing action at present
time. It expresses an action which is in progress at the time of
speaking.
Rules. Auxiliary verb am or is or are is used in sentence. 1st
form of verb or base verb + ing (present participle) is used as
main verb in sentence.

Examples:
1.
Mama is going to a birthday party tonight.
2. She is always coming to school late.
3. Darren is singing very nicely.
4. They are playing football.
5. George is constantly talking.
6. I am meeting Ashley this afternoon.
7. Aunt Angie is leaving for Saudi Arabia this evening.
8. Gelo is not working on that project now.
9. Bea is going to SM Bacoor in twenty minutes.
10.Is that your dog barking?

Uses of the present progressive:
a.

to refer to events that are in progress at the time of speaking or writing

b.

to refer to things that are taking place or that are true around the moment of speaking or writing

c.

to describe actions that are repeated or regular but are either temporary or may be judged to be temporary

d.

to describe regular actions in relation to a particular time or a specified event, especially when those events interrupt
something already in progress

e.

to refer to gradual processes of change

f.

with adverbs of indefinite frequency (such as always, constantly, continually, forever) to describe events that are regular
but unplanned and often undesired

Past Progressive Tense


It is used to express a continued or ongoing action in past, an
ongoing action which occurred in past and completed at some
point in past. It expresses an ongoing nature of an action in past.
Rules: Auxiliary verb was or were is used in sentence. 1st form
of verb or base verb + ing (present participle) is used as main
verb in sentence

Examples:
1.
Jane was riding her bike all day yesterday.
2. Diane was crying yesterday.
3. Rian was always coming to office late.
4. I was watching TV when the phone rang.
