The Director of Music Ministries position is a full time (forty core visible hours per week), salaried position twelve months of the year. The Director reports directly to the Pastor and collaborates closely with the Parish Pastoral Staff. This is an exempt position (no overtime pay). The goals for the Director of Music Ministries will be: To develop a prayerful, singing assembly through celebration, preparation, and evaluation and through education and personal ministry; With the cooperation and assistance of all the parish ministers, the Director of Music Ministries will support the gospel message through song and challenge the assembly to live it more fully. The goals for the Program of the Music Ministries will be: To build and sustain congregational song at the 4:30 pm Saturday and 8:00 & 11:00 am Sunday liturgies, Sing and play at 8:00 am Mass from Tuesday to Friday, school Mass and other liturgical worship, To help to increase regular attendance at these liturgies through the quality of music. To develop a plan to expand participation in all Music Ministries including Liturgical Choir, Childrens Choir, Cantors, Teen Choir/Ensemble, and instrumentalists. To foster active participation at the liturgy through congregational singing, reflective and prayerful execution of instrumental and choral/solo musical selections. To evaluate current musical resources and traditions, and potentially adjust them according to the ministerial vision of the parish and pastor. Duties and Responsibilities The Director of Music Ministries will be responsible for all music associated with worship, religious education, school, social ministry, and evangelization in the parish. The Director of Music Ministries will be responsible for performing three liturgies as accompanist (piano) and choir director per weekend or major feast. In addition, the Director of Music Ministries will be responsible for coordinating and staffing all other liturgies with competent musicians, utilizing other musicians as necessary. The Director of Music will provide music or make arrangements with other musician for weddings and funerals Coordinate all other musicians and ensure quality of musical performance during Masses at which these people minister. The Director of Music Ministries will be responsible for planning and executing the music at all weekend and school liturgies, as well as special celebrations
Other Responsibilities include:
Weekly rehearsals with Liturgical Choir (currently Tuesdays, 06:30-07:30 pm). Weekly rehearsals with Childrens Choir during the school year. Monthly (or more frequent) rehearsals with parish Cantors. Scheduling Cantors on a rotating basis. Designing and printing weekly, seasonal, and/or special occasion worship aids, including any additional music not found in the parish hymnal as needed. Recruit, arrange, and coordinate special volunteer musicians for Christmas and Holy Week/Easter celebrations, as well as conduct rehearsals and arrange music as necessary for these musicians. Ensuring all copyright licensing and usage reporting to the major music publishers (GIA, OCP, WLP, CCLI). Maintain and expand current Choral Music Library. Execute management and effective utilization of sound system in the church. Recruit, train, and rehearse with School Children serving as cantors for the School Masses. Plan music and readings for school Masses, utilizing Childrens Lectionary or Daily Mass Lectionary, ensuring the readings fit the appropriate comprehension level of the children. Actively participate in Prayer & Worship Committee meetings and ministry efforts. Provides a visible, accessible presence at parish events and demonstrates an interest and concern for the tastes and faith expressions of parishioners. Serve as resource on musical and liturgical matters for all staff, faculty, and volunteer ministers in the parish, as well as provide catechesis to the parish at large on matters of corporate worship and musical celebration. Maintains active involvement in diocesan and national networks/professional peer groups. Collaborates with the Business Manager on preparation and implementation of the Music & Liturgy budgets. Other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary by the pastor. The parish staff meeting (every other week and meeting with pastor twice monthly); Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Music or a related field required; Proficient on piano, in conducting, and in singing Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Publisher, Music writing/editing software such as Finale or Sibelius, Social Media) Exemplary communication skills (working well with adults and children alike, as well as high school students) Ability to improvise on keyboard instruments as well as reading music Eclectic/versatile musical knowledge and styles including standard modern Catholic music, traditional hymns, and Praise & Worship style of music Working knowledge of basic sound system functions 3-5 years work experience preferred
