Objectiveisdesignedtoextendyourabilitytomodelin3DinArchiCAD,inawaywhichfeelslikeanaturalpartofthe
environment.
Eachtoolandlibrarypartisdescribedinthefollowingarticles.RefertotheGettingStartedTutorialsforsomeexamplesof
Objectiveinuse.
WeassumethereaderhassomeknowledgeofArchiCAD,andsuggestthatnewusersalsorefertotheArchiCAD
documentation.

WatchhowtocreateExtrusionsinunder5minutes:

CreateaTrimaroundanArchedOpening
Inthistutorialwewillplaceatrim/architravearoundanexistingarchedtopdoorwayasshown.

Theprocessis:
. Definethetrimprofile.
. Extrudetheprofilearoundthedoorway.

1DefinetheProfile
Drawafillpolygonthatmatchestheprofileofthetrim.

Withthefillpolygonselected,gototheOBJECTiVEmenuandchooseComponent>NewProfilefromthemenu

ANewProfiledialogwillappear.

SettheprofileTypetoSection,enteraNamefortheextrusion,andchoosetosaveitintotheEmbeddedLibrary.Setthe
PlaceNewProfileandDeleteSelectedItemcheckboxesOff.ThenclickOK.
YouwillnowbeaskedtoClickontheprofileanchorpoint.Inthiscaseitmakessensetochoosetheinsidecornerofthe
trim.Movethemousetothispointonthefillpolygon,andclick

TheprofilehasnowbeencreatedasanobjectintheEmbeddedLibrary.

2ExtrudetheProfilearoundtheOpening
Openanelevationviewthatfacestheopening.

DoubleclickontheFramingtoolintheArchiCADToolbox.

Selectthelibrarypartyoucreatedinstep1DefinetheProfileabove.
IntheInfoBox,choosetheRotatedDiagonalplacementmethod.

Clickatthebaseoftheleftsideofthearch.

Arubberbandwillnowfollowthemousecursor.

Movethemousecursortotheoppositeside,andclicktoplacethetrim.

Selecttheprofileyoujustplaced,anduseitscenterhotspottobenditupuntilitfollowsthecurveofthearch.

Ourfinalchallengeistoextendtheendsoftheprofiletothebaseofthewall.
Opentheobject'sSettingsdialogandnavigatetothePathpage.Enter600mmintothetwoendextensionfields.

Theexactdimensionisnotimportantatthisstage,aswecanadjustitgraphically.ClickOK.

Nowusetheendextensionhotspotstopulltheendsdowntothebaseofthewall.

NOTE:Thismethodofextendingtheendstangentiallywillonlyworkforsemicirculararches.Formoreshallowarches,youwill
needtoplacemultiplepiecesoneforthearchandoneeachforthesides.

CreateaCurvedRamp
OBJECTiVEcanbeusedforelementsthatmayotherwisebedifficulttomodelusingArchiCAD.Acommonexampleiscurved
ramps.Inthistutorialwe'llcreatealargecurvedrampforuseinacarpark.
Thebasicprocessis:
. Definetheprofile.
. Definethepath.

1.DefinetheProfile
UsetheFilltooltodefinethecrosssectionalprofileoftheramp.

Selectthefillpolygon,andfromtheOBJECTiVEmenuchooseComponents>NewProfile

SettheTypetobeSection,andsettheremainingfields.

ClickOK.
YoumustnowSelectanAnchorPoint,byclickingonapointontheprofile.Inthiscasethebottomrightcornerwasselected.

2.DefinethePath
Havingdefinedtheprofile,Inowwanttouseittomodelacurvedramp.InparticularIwantto:
. Settheendstobecutvertically.
. Definetheendpoints.
. Bendtheramparoundanarc.
. Maketheramprisealongitslength.

2.1SettheEndstobeCutVertically
DoubleclickontheFramingtool,andselecttheRamp1object.
OntheProfilepage,choosetheProfileremainsVerticaloption.

SettheResizetheWidthorDepthonPlacementcheckboxtoOff.

ClickOK.

2.2DefinetheEndPoints
Clickoncetoindicatetheramp'sstartpoint,andagaintoindicatetheendpoint.

Theresultingramprunsinastraightlinebetweenthestartandendpoints.

2.3BendtheRamparoundanArc
Selecttheramp,andfromtheObjectivemenuchooseTools>Bend.

Bendthearctothedesiredradius.

2.4MaketheRampRisealongitsLength
Ourfinaltaskistomaketheramprisealongitslength.
Selecttheramp,andopenitsSettingsdialog.
OnthePathpage,enteraRisevalue.
