Operating instructions for oil burners

Monarch L, RL and WKL
1.

General

5.

In case of danger

1.1

The burner is designed for the combustion of light oils to

DIN 51603 with viscocities of max. 6 mm2/sec (1,5 E) at 20C.

5.1

In case of danger or fire switch off the installation.

5.2

Close isolating valves in the oil supply.

1.2

It should be noted that simultaneous use of oil and solid fuels is not
permitted on combination boilers of lower ratings (not customised
processing plants). The burner may only be switched on if the
grate and ash collecting box are clean. Materials, such as damp
waste which is difficult to ignite, household rubbish, plastic,
material or waste soaked with flammable liquids, powdered
materials or similar must not be burnt. This does not apply to
boilers specifically designed for this purpose.

5.3

Only use sand or dry types of extinguishers to put out a fire.

1.3

The burner must always be switched off before the fuel tank is
filled. Wait for approx. 20 minutes after filling before restarting the
burner.

1.4

Keep a constant check on the oil level in the tank. Fuel oils must
under no circumstances enter sewage, water or drainage.

1.5

The burner must be shut down for chimney cleaning.

2.

Checks before commissioning

2.1

Ensure the heating appliance is ready for operation. Boiler and

heating system must be filled. Observe the manufacturers
instructions on air heaters. Flue gas dampers must be open.

2.2

Check oil level in tank.

2.3

If provided, fuel supply pumps must be switched on.

2.4

Oil isolating valves must be open.

2.5

Ingress of combustion air must be unrestricted, openings must

always be unobstructed.

2.6

Thermostats, pressure regulators etc., must be in operating

condition and calling for heat.

3.

Commissioning the burner

3.1

Initial burner commissioning must only be carried out by trained

personnel who are familiar with the operation and control of the
burner. Starting of the burner by unauthorised personnel, after
installation and wiring, but before the correct settings have been
made, could endanger lives!

3.2

Switch on installation. Once pre-purging has been completed, the

flame will be established.

4.

Action on faults

4.1

If no flame is established after the safety period the burner control

goes to lock-out. It is only possible to restart the burner by
manually pressing the reset button. Two attempts can be made to
restart in intervals of 3 to 4 minutes.
Warning: More than two attempts to restart can cause damage to
the installation. If resetting is unsuccessful, please inform the
nearest service department.

4.2

Ensure the electrical supply and fuel supply are connected.

4.3

Check thermostat settings and all other controls.

4.4

If oil leaks occur close isolating valves and call the nearest service
centre immediately.

4.5

If a fault can not be rectified call the nearest service centre.

6.

Testing of the flame sensor

6.1

On Monarch and R burners the burner control programme

sequence can be checked by obscuring the removable flame
sensor.

6.2

On WK burners press the flame sensor test button.

6.3

Programme sequence when checking:

a) When the burner starts the fault indicating lamp must light up
in less than 5 seconds after fuel release.
b) During operation the fault indicating lamp must light up in less
than 1 second.

7.

Maintenance and service

7.1

In accordance with DIN 4755 the whole installation must

be checked once a year by an authorised employee of the
installer or other qualified personnel.
All necessary maintenance work such as operational tests,
combustion tests and cleaning work should then be carried out.
In accordance with DIN 4787 the repair of safety equipment is
not permitted. These must be replaced.

7.2

Many installers service the burners they themselves have sold.

In addition we have a number of service centres throughout the
country.
If a maintenance contract is taken out we will service the burner
for a fixed annual fee.

7.3

When carrying out work please pay attention to the wiring

diagrams and special operation instructions for the installation,
which are specific to the particular installation.
Please note:
The installation and operating instructions together with
service record can be found behind this card.
