Rugged
Portable
Precise
MINIATURIZED LOGGING NMR TOOL
FOR NEAR-SURFACE INVESTIGATIONS
AND AQUIFER CHARACTERIZATION.

A revolution in groundwater science, Javelin brings an unprecedented level of

precision and detail to groundwater investigations, delivering high-value NMR
logging technology in a compact and economical design.
Direct Detection of Groundwater Signals
Because the NMR signal is generated by hydrogen, the Javelin system provides a direct and unambiguous
measurement of groundwater. With a direct view into the pore space, Javelin data enable precise quantification
of water content and porosity as well as estimation of other critical hydrogeological parameters including
permeability, specific yield, and pore size distribution. No other logging instrument can deliver the detail of
information available from Javelin measurements.

Javelin Measurements Provide:

Direct detection of groundwater and hydrocarbons

Small-Diameter Slimhole Design

NMR has been as an indispensable technology in oil and gas exploration, but the size and cost of oil-field tools
has limited the use of this technology for groundwater applications, until now. With a range of interchangeable
small-diameter probes, Javelin is designed for economical surveying and maximum flexibility. The system runs in
wells and boreholes ranging from as small as two inches to more than eight inches. One probe is even designed
to be operated with a GeoProbe direct push system for minimally-invasive surveys.

Rapid User-Friendly Software

An easy-to-use Javelin software package allows the user to quickly monitor data quality and interpret
measurements, with the support of built-in advanced processing algorithms. The software includes analysis
tools to determine water content, T2 distributions, and to estimate hydrogeologic parameters including
bound/mobile water content and relative permeability. The package also includes advanced noise cancellation
enabling the user to detect weak signals in noisy environments, even in the unsaturated zone*.

The Javelin comes in 3 sizes. A) 4.5 ft. length with
3.5 diameter, B) 5 ft. length with 2.5 diameter and
C) 7 ft. probe with 1.75 diameter. A size to work in any
application or situation. Compared to the oil field model
that is over 50 ft. long and over 1,500 lbs.

Proprietary Javelin technology provides the user with capabilities never before
available from other logging tools, delivering the precise data you need.
Sensitivity Outside the Disturbed Zone
Drilling disturbs the native formation around the borehole. Conventional
logging tools can be strongly influenced by this zone, but Javelin provides
pinpoint sensitivity within a thin cylindrical shell outside of the disturbed area .
Replacement for a Suite of Conventional Logs
No need to bother with neutron tools, Javelin yields precise determination of
water content, independent of formation, and without a radioactive source.
Resistivity and gamma offer qualitative sensitivity to clay content, but Javelin
yields quantitative estimates of bound water and pore size. Also a virtual flow
meter, Javelin estimates permeability at 50cm resolution, even at unscreened
intervals.
Automatic Adaptive Noise Cancellation
In the very near-surface, environmental noise from powerlines or other
infrastructure can adversely affect logging data. The Javelin hardware and
software architecture provides adaptive noise cancellation to improve data
quality in noisy areas and enhances detection of short and small signals in
the unsaturated zone (Patents pending).
Minimally Invasive Logging
The JP238 probe is designed to be used with a direct push Geoprobe system.
Using a direct push system, there is no need to install a borehole. As a result
the measurement is more rapid, economical, and creates minimal disturbance
in ecologically sensitive environments.
