Re-imagining the search tool implies thinking beyond measures of

efficiency and productivity, towards measures such as creativity,
inspiration and collaboration.

Language

In this workshop we will explore what these other relational search

tools might be. We will use a mix of co-creation techniques from
lego serious play to role playing to understand the role of search in
learning environments such as a library.

Agenda
13:30 Introductions
13:40 Warm up (Improv. guessing game)
13: 40 Presentation
14:00 Exercise: Setting the stage
- Selecting a space
- Imagining scenarios where people search in these spaces
14:20 Exercise: Build your table top search tool
15:00 Fika
15:30 Presentations: Role play how the tool is used
(5-7 mins per presentation)
16:00 Discussion
16:20 Round up and closure

Purpose

This exercise is not

This is

A method to create POSSIBLE

solutions or even PROBABLE
solutions

To IMAGINE and EXPLORE

the idea of SEARCHING in
library-environments

The only limit is your imagination!

How do you search ?

Setting the stage (20mins)

Select a space (Inspiration, Meeting, Performative, Creative). What might this

space look like?
Come up with an Experience- vision for this space e.g.
When people search in this space they should experience.as if they can trust and
learn from everyone there [For meeting space]
Imagine a few interaction-scenarios where people search in these spaces
(along with other actors)
You are encouraged to think of more than one person using the tool in the
scenarios. Highlight the social interactions therein.

Tips

There are no wrong answers- There is no

right and no wrong way to build.

What the model looks like is not the most

important thing. What is important is
what the you can share/ describe through
the model.

Think with your hands: If you dont know

what you want to build, it is often a good
idea just to start building.

Note:
The device will be present through role
playing where you (in a social setting) would
enact how the device is going to be used in
the space. You might want to rehearse the
role play once before going on stage!

Presentations - Role Play

Your user
community

The librarian
The library
management

Role play the search-tool in use.

Introduce the actors being represented on stage (e.g. users,
librarians) and the context before enacting a scenario showing
how the device would be used

Discussion

Re-thinking library infrastructure

How does your current library inspire and allow for creative/
performative/ meetings/ collaborations?
What changes would you do to your current space and
infrastructure to encourage this?

Re-thinking library infrastructure

How does your current library inspire and allow for creative/
performative meetings and learning through these
interactions?
What changes would you do to your current space and
