Section 1: Introduction
This document explains the theory, operation, and setup of the Omron CP1W-ETN61
FINS UDP and FINS TCP Ethernet adapter.
The CP1W-ETN61 is an Ethernet to Serial adapter that allows FINS Ethernet devices to
communicate with CP1H and CP1L PLCs. These devices include PCs with CXProgrammer, NS series HMI products, and software packages that use Omron FINS
Gateway or Sysmac Gateway communications drivers. The adapter mounts in the
Option Board Slot on the front of a CP1H or CP1L PLC, and can be used in all CP1H /
CP1L PLCs with an available Option Board Slot.
The CP1W-ETN61 adapter converts incoming Omron FINS Ethernet commands to
Toolbus commands, and delivers the commands to the PLC CPU. The adapter then
converts the Toolbus response from the PLC CPU back to a FINS Ethernet packet, and
delivers it to the originating device (PC or HMI). This conversion process can be used
with either FINS UDP or FINS TCP, using user specified UDP and TCP port numbers.
UDP / TCP port numbers are 9600 by default. The UDP and TCP Port Numbers can be
individually configured. The CP1W-ETN61 also supports a user configurable Gateway
to allow remote (Internet based) access.
Section 2: Applications
The CP1W-ETN61 has been designed to support 8 simultaneous connections (4 UDP
and 4 TCP) from devices such as HMIs (Omron NS- / NSA-Series), and software such
as CX- Programmer, or Omron-InduSoft Web Studio.
PLC to PLC communications using Ethernet are not possible using a CP1W-ETN61, as
the adapter only functions as an Ethernet slave device.
Unlike Omron Ethernet modules for CS / CJ PLCs, the CP1W-ETN61 is not capable of
routing messages through multiple FINS network layers. The CP1W-ETN61 must
communicate with PCs and HMIs that are on the same network segment.
Section 3: FINS Ethernet Adapter Setup
The CP1W-ETN61 is assigned a default IP address of 192.168.250.11. The IP address
can be changed using a web browser pointed to the IP address of the adapter. A static
IP address must be assigned to the PCs Ethernet card for this purpose. Simply enter
the IP address of the adapter (192.168.250.11) in the web browsers address field to
access the configuration page. Enter the desired new IP address (192.168.1.150
shown as an example), subnet mask, and default gateway (if applicable). When
finished, click Apply Setting.
To maximize the throughput of the CP1W-ETN61, the amount of time per PLC scan that
is allowed for servicing communications ports should be increased. This is accessed
through the PLC Settings in CX Programmer. On the Peripheral Service tab, uncheck
the default option, and enter 50 (5.0 ms). Transfer these settings to the PLC and cycle
power to apply the changes.
Leave all the settings on the Network tab at the default values.
On the Driver tab, specify the IP address of the CP1W-ETN61. 192.168.1.151 is shown
as an example. Set the UDP or TCP Port Number to match that configured on the
CP1W-ETN61. 9600 (default) is shown as an example.
