How can we teach our students to take notes effectively?

Take notes is a very good way to focus in details or specific information, in

my experience as teacher, Ive seen many students having problems with it.
To teach our students how to use this tool, I think we should start teaching
then abbreviations, it might help them with big amounts of words, also the
use of keywords, get the idea of a sentence instead of copying the complete
sentence, for those techniques the teacher can use audios and practice in
class by writing a sentence on the board and then summarize it, in few
words. students at the beginning have problems but once they get the
correct way how to use, it will help a lot in listening activities or any class
they have.

Last Class we had the chance to see some performances, in my opinion there are 2 parts
that are memorable for me, the first one was showed in the first group, which used "
balloons, mask " in order to make students get the idea of the reading, then the other
memorable part was when Luis soto used a poster as an example of invitation for a party,
using that example students can have an idea how they are going to write an invitation, to
conclude classmates presentation gave some ideas how to work in class with reading and
writing.

Design a task for the AFTER READING STAGE using the text on
pages 23 and 24 of your guide. Remember to develop
metacognition strategies in this task.
After Reading task.
Teacher writes the followings questions on the board.

What is the amount of students who drop out school before

finish it?
Where does the author base his research?
Who is the author of this text?
Students work in pairs, if is necessary they reread the text.
Students share the answers with everybody.

Teacher ask the following questions:

What is the main idea of the text?
Do you agree with the author?
Students compare answers with their classmates.
Students underline the words they dont know the meaning.
Teacher solve problems about vocabulary ( if is necessary)

How important are graphic organizers for our students to become

efficient readers? Write down your opinion in a 150-word
paragraph. Remember to be concise (brief and clear). Base your
opinion on your guide (UNIT 2) and your last class.
The importance of graphic organizers is based on helping students to
create an order in their understanding, most of students get confused
because they dont understand what are they reading so teachers use
this tool to involve students in the reading , as we know we have many
types of graphic organizers, we need to select one depending on
students level. During classes we can use them, to make sure if
students get the main idea of the text, students become efficient
readers when use it, as we know readings can be extensive, so
whenever we need to take a look, we can check the mind map o spider
chat we made after read a text, in my opinion when I was in
methodology courses, graphic organizers help me in many topics,
specially before exams although in the beginning is difficult to use it,
but then students will not have problems.

Teaching English in Peru is a unique experience, English is the

language that most people in Peru prefer to learn, because they need
to travel abroad or students need a second language in order to
graduate from university, so as English teacher you can work with
many types of learners and help them, English is also a language that
is teach in many public school, in that case students dont have a good
level at all since the government doesnt invest in education so English
teachers at public school have problems, thats why is difficult to learn
that language at public schools, to conclude teaching English in Peru is
a experience that will help you in the way how you see the things in
Peru
