Wedge Action Grips THS527

Description
Wedge grips are self-adjusting grips. The clamping
preload is applied to the sample by means of a
central thread. The wedge action enhances this hold
with minimum slippage by increasing the gripping
load as the force increases during the test.
The wedge grips are very well suited for flexible
samples, since they automatically re-tensioning and
thereby adapt to the sample thickness. The wedge
grips are symmetrical closing. Thus the sample is
automatically positioned in the pulling axis
Wedge action grips feature an open front design which facilitates easy loading of
large specimens. The standard THS527 series can accommodate round specimens
up to 17mm in diameter and flat specimens up to 30mm thick in forces from
10kN to 100kN.
The shape of the jaws can be V-face for round specimens or pyramid surface for flat
specimens. The vee faces used for round specimens by design have a reduced area
at the center, which compromises their ability to absorb high energy breaks without
fracture. This grip uses a split-vee face configuration which allows the break energy
to be dissipated without damaging the faces.
The jaws are easily interchangeable. The user only needs to remove the guiding
covers by loosening the knurling screws that secure them to the grip body and
replace the jaws without effort.
The lubrication of the jaw face carrier is through standard grease fitting.

Non-standard Versions
There is an adapted version to extend the temperature range of these grips to 70C to +250C.
The special version Heavy Wedge grip model THS527-250-CA is intended for
250kN.
MNTH527-SS-100 Wedge Grips, are 100kN capacity and the main body is made
in stainless steel 17-4PH.
