The life of Jimi Hendrix

Lexie Reeler
Jimi Hendrix was born on the 27th of November, 1942. He was one
of the most famous electric guitarists in history. He was called
arguably the greatest instrumentalist in the history of rock
music. He was most influenced by the styles of American rock
and roll and electric blues. 3 of his most famous songs charted in
the top 10 in the UK, and are called Hey Joe, Purple Haze and
The Wind Cries Mary.
He first started playing an instrument when his dad bought him
an acoustic guitar for his 15th birthday. However, his interest in
music was noticed much before that, when a social worker at his
school saw him with a broom in his hand all the time, pretending
it was a guitar. The social worker applied for the funding for a
guitar for him, but was denied. He later received his own guitar
though. Jimi then formed a band with his friends called The King
Kasuals. He later went on to join another band, but the leader of
that band though Jimi was stealing the spotlight so he was fired.
He later joined the army, as a consequence for stealing. It was
either that or spending 2 years in jail. He only spent a year in the
army, then returned home. At home, he was known as Black
Elvis as he was of African American decent and the first songs he
learnt to play were Elvis songs.
He then went on to become one of the highest paid artists, and
was invited to perform at Woodstock. There he decided that there
were too many people and he didnt like performing in front of
large crowds so he waited until 8am to perform. It was recognized
as one of the most iconic performances of his. A documentary
called Woodstock was made.
He died on the 18th of September 1970, at the young age of 38.
The cause of death was asphyxiation from his own vomit while

being intoxicated. His death was very sudden, but he will always
be remembered as a legend.
