temperaturecondition.Thecoolingwaterjacketiscommonlywhere
the
sensorforthecoolingwatersystemislocated.
Thewaterjackettemperaturesensorsprovideearlywarningof
abnormal
enginetemperature,usuallyanalarmfunctiononly.Thesetpointis
set
suchthatiftheconditioniscorrectedinatimelymanner,significant
enginedamagewillbeavoided.Butcontinuedengineoperationat
the
alarmtemperatureorhighertemperatureswillleadtoengine
damage.
Exhausttemperatures
Inadieselengine,exhausttemperaturesareveryimportantandcan
provideavastamountofinformationregardingtheoperationofthe
engine.Highexhausttemperaturecanindicateanoverloadingofthe
engineorpossiblepoorperformanceduetoinadequatescavenging
(the
coolingeffect)intheengine.Extendedoperationwithhighexhaust
temperaturescanresultindamagetotheexhaustvalves,piston,
and
cylinders.Theexhausttemperatureusuallyprovidesonlyanalarm
function.

alarm
function.
