STRAINERS
1- SCOPE
This procedure covers the general requirement for post weld heat
treatment of strainer.
2- REFERENCES
- ASME Sec. VIII ; Boiler & pressure vessel code Div 1/ Edition 1991
- ANSI 31.3 Refinery and Petrochemical Piping
- Welding procedure specification
3- SURFACE PREPARTION
- Surface will be cleaned from grease, paint and inflammables before
postweld heat treatment.
- All mechanical surfaces shall be protected by a suitable paint or
refractory to prevent damages from scaling during post weld heat treatment.

LOCAL PWHT:
- Local heat treatment involves the heating of a small band of metal. Normally
the band of weld being heat treated is stationary, but in some manufacturing
operations, the band moves.
- In local PWHT, thermo couples may be directly welded to the joint and size of
the
approved electrode shall be not larger than 2.5mm. After thermal cycle,
the thermocouples shall be cutted by grinding.
-A circumferential band at least 150 mm width, including the weld shall be
heated until the specified temperature range, in local PWHT method.
6- RECORDS
The cycle of heat treatment shall be recorded with records chart and PWHT
report.
On the recording charts shall be written the following data:
- Chart progressive number
- Date of performance
- Equipment number and identification
- Temperature and time scales.
- Signature of controller or inspector.
