I OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to:
a. Discuss the procedure of the proper setting the machine needle
b. Perform the correct insertion of the machine needle.
c. Observe the safety procedure in setting the machine needle.

But before we go further, let first to know
the history of the machine needle.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SEWING
MACHINE NEEDLE
It is a little known fact that the needle was one
of humankinds first tools. Over the centuries it
developed from a simple craft item to the
precision tool for modern sewing machines,
constantly adapted for new industrial
applications and requirements. The use of
sewing today does not stop at garments and
furnishings, but is equally important for car
seats and airbags meeting high technical
safety standards. The needle has played a
major part in the development of our
civilization and our standard of living.
We have also some objectives that we are
going to attain, after we are through with our
lesson.

Now lets take up the following trade

1. Lockstitch sewing machine = is a
machine used to stitch fabric and other
materials together with thread.
2. Needle Bar = holds the needle in place.
3. Needle Clamp = holds and tightens the
needle.
4. Needle = is a slender tool, attached on
the needle clamp used for sewing.
5. Treadle = is where the feet are
stationed to drive the band wheel
through the pitman rod.
6. Groove = part of the needle which
makes it firm.
7. Long groove = part of the needle which
is positioned on the left side of the
machine.
8. Short groove = position of the right side
the machine.
9. Shank = provides stability to the needle
blade.

Procedure:
Setting the machine needle
Be familiar with the parts of the
machine needle.
Bring down the needle bar to its
highest position.
Loosen the needle clamp screw.
Insert the needle with the flat side or
short groove on the right.
Tighten the needle clamp screw.

3. Actual Demonstration
Teacher demonstrates on how to setting
the machine needle.
This time, please come closer and
observe carefully on how I perform the
procedure in setting the machine needle.
