Introduction"
!
For!the!last!six!days!and!nights,!the!storm!raged.!Merchants,!adventurers,!and!other!
wandering!souls!were!forced!together!to!share!what!limited!shelter!could!be!found!
on!the!muddy!road!between!the!villages!of!Shorlester!and!Hunters!Refuge.!The!
trips!typical!fiveIday!walking!journey!has!now!turned!into!seven.!As!the!storm!
clouds!dissipate,!a!blue!sky!reappears.!A!ranger!in!the!larger!group!estimates!it!will!
be!another!four!days!on!the!road!to!finish!out!the!journey.!
!
Your!small!party!has!enjoyed!sharing!food!and!stories!with!the!other!travelers,!
especially!the!two!monks!who!seem!to!have!been!born!to!cook!over!the!simplest!of!
campfires.!Guard!duty!has!been!light,!and!while!you!cannot!recall!ever!feeling!this!
safe!on!such!a!short!journey,!the!previous!two!nights!sleep!has!been!anything!but!
restful.!!
!
Strange!dreams.!An!empty!farmhouse.!A!cave.!Dark!hallways.!A!crypt.!An!old!man.!
And!a!menacing!woman.!Unlike!other!dreams,!the!details!remain!vivid!when!you!
wake!and!every!member!of!the!larger!group!is!surprised!to!discover!the!dream!is!
shared.!One!of!the!monks!recalls!a!loud!voice,!and!the!ranger!shudders!as!he!recalls!
a!skeletal!figures!glowing!eyes.!The!youngest!cleric!in!the!group!asks!about!the!
farmhouse,!and!a!merchant!recalls!a!split!in!the!road!that!leads!to!the!abandoned!
structure.!
!
As!the!sun!rises,!the!travelers!begin!to!break!camp.!Meals!are!eaten!and,!once!again,!
the!dreams!are!briefly!discussed.!But!with!the!trips!end!in!sight,!no!one!is!willing!to!
dwell!too!long!on!the!meaning!of!the!dreams.!The!days!walk!begins!again.!
!
Half!a!days!journey!passes!without!incident,!but!as!the!travelers!round!a!sharp!turn!
in!the!road,!the!group!comes!to!a!sudden!stop.!Ahead,!the!road!splits!to!the!left!and!
the!right.!Murmurs!turn!into!pointing!and!shaking!of!heads.!You!stare!at!the!split,!
and!recognize!it!immediately.!Your!destination!lies!to!the!left,!but!you!instinctively!
know!the!farmhouse!can!be!found!at!the!end!of!the!road!on!the!right.!!
!
After!much!discussion,!the!larger!group!divides.!Nods!are!given,!handshakes!
exchanged.!As!the!distance!between!the!two!roads!increases,!so!does!the!foliage,!
until!both!groups!can!no!longer!catch!glimpses!of!the!other.!!
!
For!some,!the!dream!was!not!enough.!Answers!must!be!had.!
!
The!sun!is!just!beginning!to!set!as!the!road!widens!into!a!clearing.!To!the!east,!a!
small!hill!rises.!To!the!west,!the!forest!expands.!And!to!the!north,!the!road!
disappears!and!is!replaced!by!a!small!singleIstory!farmhouse.!Sitting!on!the!porch!
steps,!a!figure!waves!to!you.!

Area"1""Porch"
!
SunIfaded!boards!and!two!broken!chairs!make!up!the!porch!area.!A!single!latched!
door!leads!into!the!house.!The!thatched!roof!extends!out!over!the!porch,!providing!
shade!from!the!sun.!An!older!man!dressed!in!light!gray!robes!stands!on!the!porch!!
his!smile!is!wide!and!he!appears!to!be!extremely!happy!with!your!arrival.!He!greets!
you!with!arms!wide!!You!are!here!!he!exclaims.!My!prayers!have!been!
answered!"!
!
A!latched!door!leads!into!the!house.!If!examined,!the!porch!rests!approximately!one!
foot!above!the!dirt!ground.!A!single!gold!necklace!worth!20gp!fell!through!the!cracks!
many!years!ago!and!rests!on!the!ground!!unless!the!boards!are!pulled!up,!this!
necklace!cannot!be!seen!through!the!cracks.!
!
Waiting!on!the!porch!is!the!cleric,!Oren!Kindleharp.!He!wears!whiteIgray!robes!with!
green!trim,!a!standard!design!for!his!order.!He!also!has!brown!leather!shoes!and!a!
small!hammer!sits!on!the!porch!next!to!his!backpack.!He!will!be!friendly!to!any!who!
approach.!If!any!party!member!informs!him!of!the!dreams,!he!will!clap!his!hands!
excitedly!and!claim!his!prayers!have!been!answered.!
!
Oren!appears!to!be!in!his!60s!(actually!age,!62)!with!graying!hair.!He!is!not!
unhealthy,!but!does!appear!tired!and!has!some!scratches!and!bruises!that!are!easily!
visible.!If!asked,!he!will!share!that!he!had!a!nasty!encounter!with!a!small!group!of!
wolves!before!arriving!at!the!house.!
!
Oren!will!insist!that!the!players!arrival!at!the!farmhouse!is!a!sign!of!divine!
intervention.!He!will!explain!that!he!has!been!sent!by!The!Order!of!the!Silver!
Hammer!to!deconsecrate!a!temple!that!lies!underground!and!was!protected!by!a!
devout!fighter!who!lived!in!the!farmhouse.!He!was!provided!with!a!map!to!the!
farmhouse!that!indicates!a!hidden!entrance!through!a!nearby!cave.!He!can!take!the!
players!to!the!cave,!but!they!will!discover!the!cave!is!collapsed.!Any!dwarves!in!the!
party!will!be!able!to!determine!that!the!collapse!is!significant!and!will!take!months!
to!clear.!
!
Oren!will!insist!that!the!temple!would!never!be!built!with!a!single!entrance!there!
MUST!be!another!entrance.!Oren's!spells!are!exhausted!and!he!wont!be!much!help!
to!the!players.!He!will!insist!on!joining!them,!however,!if!they!manage!to!find!the!
entrance!to!the!temple.!He!will!speak!against!(but!make!no!actions!to!stop)!any!
desecration!or!vandalism!to!the!temple!and!explain!that!his!ritual!of!deIconsecration!
will!remove!all!blessings!from!the!temple!and!the!players!can!do!what!they!will!once!
his!ritual!is!performed.!If!asked,!he!will!admit!to!having!possibly!visited!the!temple!
20!or!30!years!earlier!(memory!fails)!when!it!was!being!constructed!and!has!no!
knowledge!of!its!existing!layout.!

Area"2""Living"Room/Dining"Room"
!
Although!the!farmhouse!appears!to!have!been!abandoned!for!some!time,!there!is!not!
much!damage!to!the!interior.!A!few!chairs!sit!quietly!around!a!fireplace!to!the!left!
and!to!the!right!is!a!large!table!with!six!chairs!around!it.!Dust!covers!every!surface.!
Against!the!far!right!wall!is!a!small!stove!for!cooking!and!a!small!cabinet!containing!
nothing!but!tin!plates!and!number!of!wood!carved!cups.!There!are!two!doors!here,!
one!near!the!center!of!the!large!open!area!and!another!in!the!rightIrear!corner!of!the!
house.!
!
Two!doors!are!visible!!one!to!the!left!(Area!3)!and!the!other!in!the!far!right!corner!
(Area!4).!
!
If!anyone!listens!at!the!door!to!Area!3,!there!is!a!20%!chance!they!will!hear!some!
scratching!sounds.!Nothing!will!be!heard!at!the!door!to!Area!4.!
!
There!is!nothing!of!value!in!this!room!and!there!are!no!hidden!doors!or!
compartments.!!

Area"3""Bedroom"
!
A!bed!lies!in!pieces!in!one!corner,!the!blanket!shredded.!The!stuffed!mattress!leans!
against!the!left!wall.!A!small!chest!of!drawers!is!tipped!over,!spilling!out!a!small!
amount!of!mothIeaten!clothing.!A!large!hole!in!the!rear!wall!is!visible.!A!fireplace!is!
placed!in!the!left!wall!that!separates!the!bedroom!from!the!living!room!and!would!
provide!heat!to!both!areas!when!lit.!
!
If!any!player!steps!into!the!room,!a!mediumIsized!bear!will!rear!up!from!behind!the!
mattress.!!
!
If!the!player!immediately!leaves!the!room!and!closes!the!door,!the!bear!will!leave!
through!the!hole!in!the!wall.!Otherwise,!the!bear!will!attack!the!nearest!player.!If!the!
players!wait!a!minute!or!longer!before!entering!the!bedroom!again,!the!bear!will!be!
gone.!

A!close!examination!of!the!room!will!uncover!a!small!journal!with!a!number!of!pages!
ripped!out.!Any!player!that!reads!a!few!pages!will!find!mention!of!the!underground!
temple!and!some!of!the!visits!the!fighter!made!to!the!underground!area.!A!DC!12!
Perception!roll!will!allow!the!player!to!read!between!the!lines!and!discern!that!
another!entrance!to!the!temple!must!exist!nearby!(other!than!the!cave).!

*!Brown!Bear!!A!mediumIsized!brown!bear!(HP!20,!Speed!20ft)!has!made!the!
bedroom!its!den.!The!bear!has!torn!a!small!hole!in!the!floor!to!enter!and!leave!from!
the!rear!of!the!farmhouse!and!will!not!attack!unless!a!player!enters!the!room.!
Closing!the!door!will!be!sufficient!to!stop!the!bear!attack;!it!will!leave!via!the!hole!
and!not!return.!

Area"4""Weapons/Trophy"Room"
!
Before!you!is!a!small!10x20!room!that!appears!to!have!served!as!a!trophy!room.!
Hanging!on!the!walls!are!four!swords!and!three!shields.!A!small!bookshelf!on!the!
rear!wall!holds!a!mix!of!random!objects!that!includes!buckles,!lanterns!and!a!few!
helmets.!
!
Mounted!on!the!wall!are!four!swords!and!three!shields.!Most!are!a!bit!rusted!with!
the!exception!of!one!particular!short!sword.!Oren!will!be!unconcerned!with!any!
players!removing!any!items.!
!
The!short!sword!is!a!+1!weapon!(in!the!hands!of!a!fighter,!lawful!good!alignment!
only)!and!will!not!rust!or!dull.!The!remaining!swords!are!standard!swords!but!will!
fetch!a!total!of!10gp!from!a!blacksmith.!The!shields!are!all!in!decent!shape!and!will!
fetch!5gp!if!collected!and!sold.!
!
A!number!of!other!objects!are!on!display!on!a!small!bookshelf.!These!consist!of!four!
buckles!(gold,!12gp!in!total!value),!two!lanterns,!and!two!helmets.!The!helmets!are!
ordinary.!!
!
**!Behind!one!of!the!rusted!swords!is!a!small!catch.!This!trap!is!a!simple!locking!
mechanism!that!protects!the!secret!door.!Players!who!investigate!the!room!or!the!
swords!carefully!and!roll!a!DC!14!or!higher!(Perception)!will!discover!the!secret!
catch!behind!one!of!the!three!hanging!(and!rusted)!swords.!Pushing!on!the!catch!
will!release!a!small!compartment!beneath!the!swords!that!leads!to!a!thin!staircase!
going!down!to!the!Main!Temple!Foyer!(area!5).!Unless!the!player!specifies!they!are!
using!a!dagger!or!other!small!object!to!press!on!the!catch,!assume!they!are!using!a!
hand!and!apply!1d4!poison!damage.!The!players!speed!will!also!be!cut!in!half!due!to!
dizziness.!
!
A!distinctive!snap!is!heard!behind!the!catch!and!a!thin!portion!of!the!paneled!wall!
pops!open.!There!is!enough!space!for!a!single!person!to!squeeze!through.!Revealed!
behind!the!panel!is!a!thin!stone!staircase!that!goes!down.!

Area"5""Main"Temple"Foyer"
!
This!circular!room!is!lighted!with!a!slight!flicker,!but!no!source!for!the!light!is!
visible.!A!well!sits!in!the!center!of!the!room!and!is!surrounded!by!four!columns!that!
match!up!to!the!points!of!the!compass.!Four!passages!are!visible!that!extend!north,!
east,!west,!and!south.!The!eastern!passageway!is!short!enough!that!another!room!is!
visible.!
!
The!well!doesnt!lead!to!a!lower!level.!The!blessing!that!was!placed!on!the!water!
years!ago!still!exists,!and!any!player!of!Lawful!Good!alignment!may!drink!from!this!
well!once!every!24!hours!for!1d6!of!HP!healing.!In!addition,!the!water!will!instantly!
remove!the!Poisoned!condition!on!any!player!of!nonIevil!alignment!who!drinks.!
!
The!columns!are!ordinary.!There!are!no!other!areas!or!items!of!interest!in!the!room.!
The!lighting!is!magical!in!nature!and!still!extends!to!almost!every!room,!but!there!
will!be!a!slight!flicker!to!the!light!as!the!players!explore!the!entire!temple.!

Area"6""Public"Worship/Gathering"Area"
"
What!must!once!have!been!a!clean!and!worthy!place!of!worship!for!the!temples!
residents!and!visitors!is!no!more.!You!can!still!make!out!the!shape!of!the!rooms!only!
altar!on!the!far!side!of!the!room,!but!the!rest!of!the!room!is!filled!with!shattered!
chairs,!ripped!tapestries,!and!toppled!statuary.!The!temples!guardian!has!been!dead!
less!than!a!year,!but!without!a!caretaker!it!is!apparent!that!a!mix!of!wild!animals!
have!done!their!damage.!A!coating!of!yellow!dust!covers!every!surface,!and!even!the!
soft!magical!glow!that!lights!the!temple!is!subdued!here.!A!single!open!door!is!
visible!to!the!immediate!right!of!the!entry!into!the!worship!area.!
!
Oren!will!want!to!examine!the!altar!on!the!far!wall!of!Area!6,!but!the!area!is!covered!
with!Yellow!Mold.!Oren!will!ask!the!players!to!try!and!burn!or!clear!the!mold!with!
flame.!Players!may!attempt!to!escort!Oren!through!the!room!to!the!altar.!For!every!
10!moved!with!a!flame!applied!to!the!mold,!players!must!make!a!DC!10!Constitution!
saving!throw!!failure!gives!1d10!poison!damage!and!triggers!any!nonIcleared!
mold!within!5!to!explode!and!force!players!in!range!to!also!make!saving!throws.!
When!players!reach!center!of!room!(marked!on!map),!an!encounter!with!an!Ochre!
Jelly!is!triggered.!
!
Ochre!Jelly!!This!ochre!jelly!is!attached!to!the!ceiling!and!will!drop!on!any!player!
immediately!below.!A!DC!12!Dexterity!saving!throw!must!be!made!or!2d6!damage!
will!be!taken!plus!1d6!acid!damage.!When!ochre!jelly!reaches!10HP,!it!will!
automatically!divide!and!split!HP.!The!jelly!is!hiding!in!a!small!recess!carved!into!the!
ceiling!and!only!a!player!rolling!a!DC!19!or!higher!Wisdom!check!will!notice!the!
motionless!creature.!

There!is!a!hidden!compartment!on!the!underside!of!the!altar.!Anyone!examining!the!
altar!and!rolling!a!successful!DC!14!Perception!check!will!find!a!nonItrapped!latch.!
Opening!the!latch!reveals!a!prayer!book!that!will!be!valuable!to!Orens!order.!There!
are!no!secret!doors!or!concealed!areas.!!

As!with!the!other!rooms,!the!room!is!lit!by!a!magical!glow!that!will!occasionally!
flicker.!

preparation!tables!remain!against!the!walls,!and!a!mix!of!rusted!knives,!dinnerware!
and!utensils!are!scattered!across!the!floor.!A!small!door!is!visible!and!open!on!the!
left!wall.!The!magical!light!continues!to!flicker,!causing!strange!shadows.!

Searching!among!the!debris!will!reveal!a!single!unbroken!bottle!of!Elven!Honselli!
Spice,!value!10gp!at!any!tavern!or!lodging!where!food!is!served.!!

Area"8""Stores"

!
Cracked!barrels!and!busted!crates!litter!the!stone!tiled!floor.!Bags!of!wheat!and!corn!
have!been!torn!open!and!searched,!spilling!the!contents!over!the!stone!floor.!!

Any!player!that!searches!and!successfully!rolls!a!DC!18!or!higher!Perception!check!
will!notice!a!stone!tile!that!doesnt!quite!match!the!coloration!of!the!other!stones.!
The!stone!can!be!pried!up!with!a!sharp!edge!and!will!reveal!a!small!leather!pouch!
holding!four!objects:!

3.!A!silver!key!with!a!carving!of!two!tiny!armored!knights!visible!

crypt!in!the!Primary!Crypt!(Area!11)!room.!Holding!the!key!is!not!enough!to!prevent!
the!two!Animated!Armors!from!attacking!!the!key!must!be!placed!on!the!crypt!
before!the!crypt!may!be!touched.!

Area"9""Library"
!
Two!large!bookshelves!stand!floor!to!ceiling,!filled!with!books.!On!the!lower!two!
shelves!of!both!shelves,!a!number!of!books!have!been!knocked!loose,!possibly!by!
animals!given!the!gnaw!marks!visible!on!many!of!the!leather!covers.!A!few!small!
chairs!are!tipped!over,!and!two!doors!are!visible!on!the!rear!wall!and!the!wall!to!the!
right.!

The!bookcase!on!the!left!wall!contains!a!mix!of!books!of!no!real!value.!They!concern!
various!histories!and!legends!relating!to!matters!relevant!to!the!Order!of!the!Silver!
Hammer.!Players!searching!it!will!find!little!of!interest.!The!bookcase!on!the!far!wall,!
however,!holds!a!few!treasures!and!is!protected!by!a!trap.!

This!trap!is!designed!to!inflict!damage!on!any!person!approaching!the!bookcase!
from!the!front!and!not!the!sides.!The!traps!location!on!the!floor!is!indicated!on!the!
map.!Any!player!moving!across!this!square!will!trigger!the!trap.!Once!triggered,!
three!poisoned!spears!will!shoot!from!the!bookcase!(one!for!each!5!square)!and!in!
the!direction!of!Area!5.!Any!players!in!the!path!of!a!spear!must!make!a!DC!14!
Dexterity!saving!throw!or!take!1d8!poison!damage.!The!poison!is!the!same!type!as!
that!found!in!the!farmhouse!catch!!player!speed!will!be!reduced!to!half!until!a!
short!rest!is!completed!or!the!poison!effect!is!removed.!
!
The!books!on!the!trapped!bookcase!are!also!a!mix!of!topics!that!will!not!make!much!
sense!to!the!players.!Any!spell!casters!in!the!party!who!examine!the!bookcase!
closely!and!roll!higher!than!a!DC!14!Wisdom!check!will!discover!an!ancient!text!
related!to!formulating!healing!spells!and!will!recognize!its!value!(150gp)!to!any!
magic!schools!or!orders!devoted!to!the!art!of!healing.!Oren!will!ask!to!examine!the!
book!and!offer!it!as!payment!for!the!players!assistance!in!protecting!him!until!he!
completes!the!ritual.!

Area"10""Small"Chapel"
!
Although!covered!with!dust,!this!small!chapel!appears!to!be!intact!with!the!
exception!of!two!collapsed!corners!in!the!far!right!and!left.!A!dozen!small!benches!all!
face!a!small!statue,!and!the!tapestries!on!the!walls!depict!valiant!warriors!fighting!
sideIbyIside!with!powerful!clerics.!
!
There!is!nothing!of!value!in!this!room.!At!one!time!a!false!wall!in!the!far!left!corner!
provided!access!to!the!secret!entrance/exit!provided!by!the!cave.!The!outside!
entrance!of!the!cave!has!been!collapsed,!and!now!the!inside!has!been!collapsed!as!
well.!Unfortunately,!the!collapse!in!this!room!is!not!complete,!and!ten!minutes!of!
digging!in!the!corner!will!reveal!an!opening!large!enough!for!a!human!to!pass!into!
the!cave.!There!is!nothing!of!value!in!the!cave,!but!there!is!a!trapped!creature!who!
will!now!be!extremely!hungry.!The!other!collapsed!corner!will!reveal!nothing!but!
two!damaged!walls.!

Thurrgal!!a!large!stumpIlike!creature!with!four!eyes,!a!single!large!mouth,!and!
dozens!of!tiny!tentacles!for!legs.!Movement!speed!is!slow!I!10.!Two!large!ropeIlike!
tentacles!(10!reach)!will!attempt!to!wrap!around!a!player!and!squeeze!for!blunt!
damage!and!suffocation.!Any!attack!on!a!tentacle!will!force!an!immediate!release!of!
any!caught!adventurers!and!a!retreat!of!5!by!the!Thurrgal.!

Area"11""Primary"Crypt"Room"
!
The!magical!glow!that!lights!the!room!appears!to!emanate!from!the!gigantic!marble!
crypt!that!rests!before!you.!On!the!top,!a!chiseled!relief!is!so!lifeIlike!that!you!can!
make!out!the!wrinkles!on!the!skin!of!the!old!man!holding!a!large!hammer!over!his!
chest.!Four!marble!hammers,!one!per!side,!cover!a!portion!of!the!seam!that!
separates!lid!from!box.!To!your!left!and!right,!two!closed!doors!are!visible.!A!small!
marble!bench!sits!to!the!left!of!the!entry!door.!
!
If!asked!about!the!crypt,!Oren!will!respond!that!the!man!laid!to!rest!inside!is!
Herongar!the!Pious,!one!of!the!seven!scions!(leaders)!of!the!Order!of!the!Silver!
Hammer.!
!
If!any!players!touch!any!part!of!the!marble!crypt,!two!Animated!Armors!will!exit!
from!the!two!closets!(one!left,!one!right)!and!attack.!The!attack!will!continue!until!all!
players!(and!Oren)!have!left!the!Primary!Crypt!Room.!The!Animated!Armors!will!not!
leave!the!room,!but!they!will!return!to!the!closets!when!all!players!have!exited!the!
room.!After!this,!players!may!reIenter!the!room!!the!Armors!will!attack!again!
should!a!player!touch!the!crypt.!The!only!way!to!approach!and!touch!the!crypt!
without!activating!the!protective!Armors!is!to!place!the!Silver!Key!(found!in!Area!8)!
