05th /06th SEPTEMBER 2015TWENTY THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear Parishioners,
The prophet Isaiah declares the words to his
people and to us: Courage! Do not be afraid. He
goes on to say: Then the eyes of the blind shall be
opened, the ears of the deaf unsealed the
parched land springs of water.
When we listen to news items today, we can
become very discouraged. We hear of the plight of
refugees in Calais and Hungary; drownings of
children, fathers and mothers in the seas leading
to Europe; beheadings and murder of innocent people its very difficult not to despair.
We are reminded by our UK politicians to FEAR welcoming any refugees. This cannot
be right: they are our sisters and brothers. St James reminder us how easily we make
judgements between peoplethe well-dressed person and the one in shabby clothes
those who can fly into our country and those who risk their lives in leaking-overloaded-coffin boats.

Be Opened.

Jesus opened the ears of the deaf man and

loosened his tongue to speak. We have the
gifts of speech, but if we do not speak out for
those who have no voice of their own, then
we may as well be dumb. If we do not hear
the cry of the poor in whatever situation,
we may as well be stone deaf! These are the
implications and challenges for us in the
scriptures today.

A case in point: the AssistedSuicide Bill being

purposed who will speak up? We need to! Those dying at sea and dying in lorry
containers why are the leaving their homes to find a life? Yes, we need COURAGE if we
are to respond.
THANKS to all who supported the Cycle Ride London to Newhaven those who
sponsored me and came to Westminster Cathedral on Saturday last to see us of. The
trip went well; we covered the 100 miles safely in the Phase I, London to Paris for the
Climate Change Conference. We now need to build of to Phase II Dieppe to Paris in
November. Thanks again and more information later. Fr. Joe

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY
