Australian cricket board : a high performance

organization
Introduction:
Australia has the best record in the test match cricket and an unmatched
performance in the one day internationals (odi’s).Australian cricket board as we all
know is one of the high performance organization in the cricket world. The ACB
operates a fiduciary responsibility on behalf of all Australians who are the ultimate
shareholders of the game. It is no doubt the peak performing organization.

• About ACB:-
The ACB has controlled the development of the game of cricket since 1905,on
behalf of the Australian nation. The responsibility includes all the technical and
administrative aspects of the game.

The national office of ACB is a mixture of cricketing traditions and modern

marketing .it is a place of legends. The foundations of the ACB’s sustained
strength are the club cricket because ultimately the delegates comes from the state.
Denis Rogers, chairman of ACB, is entirely untroubled by the lack of proper
recognition. He notes simply that the ACB has mastered the art of ‘appearing to be
losing while we are actually winning’.

The formal division of labor in the organization is structured along classic

functional lines. General managers in commercial, operations, marketing and
public affairs, all report to CEO Malchom speed. There are some thirty full time
employees who share the national office with the state elected, fourteen member
board of directors. The directors of ACB meet monthly and stand at the pinnacle of
organization and of Australian cricket. Its structure mirrors the federalism of
country as the representatives from local club cricket constitute the state bodies
which in turn elect the national board.
The ACB through the national office assists the team directly by overseeing the
players’ handbook which is issued to all test match players it contains detailed
information on fitness regimes, dietary habits, training schedules for tours and
motivational mantras which demonstrates how players can focus on taking control
of 1% things. Recent retired captain of Australian test side said that the handbook
certainly have its uses. ACB as a forward thinking organization, makes no
distinction between test cricket and the one day game at the international level.
Denis Rogers explained” they are both important to Australian cricket. when
promotion is being done we show players with colored uniforms and players
dressed in white side by side”. the search for new ways to promote, sell and share
the dream of Australian cricket flourishes in the ACB.

Responsibility of ACB:-
1. To give “opportunity to play”

2. To build interests inside children during the training sessions so that they could
not get distracted by any other games.

3. To take Australian cricket to greater heights.

4. Formulation of new development programs that begins in primary schools and

finishes on the most famous cricket pitches around the world.

5. Specialist programs in fast bowling and spin bowling.

6. To produce such players who can perform victoriously in the international

cricket.

7. To give a sound infrastructure where the players get the opportunity to perform.

8. To build up a huge participation base by exposing children to cricket at a early

age.

9. To formulate policy.

10. Assists the states to implement the policy.

11. Maintaining records of the players

12. Sending individual players overseas to experience specific playing conditions

13. Putting in place alliances and networks between institutions ,from schools to
cricketing authorities overseas and commercial sponsors.

14. to generate income through international cricket and assist the states by the
distribution of that money.

IMPORTANCE OF CLUB CRICKET:

The origin of Australian game is firmly located at club level and local cricket
continues to this day to be the bedrock of international success. Rod Marsh,
who currently heads the elite commonwealth bank cricket academy in Adelaide,
first kept wicket for Australia in 1971, and went on to make ninety seven test
appearances.

Marsh also points out that in the modern game test players still operates at the
local club level. Even though the game is now professional, with million dollars
income earned by the top test players, it is still feasible for the Australian
captain to find himself at the community roots of the game.

When sir Donald bradman came home from an overseas test series there was
not an ODI to play in so he had be playing club cricket and so the young players
got the chance to play with him and understand the basic concepts from him.

.when an Australian player comes back into his grade side and trains with his
grade club, there are thirty or forty other young players who watch what this
guy does and wants to be like him. He is a role model who shows them what the
standard is like.

Club cricket is a reflection of life because ultimately the players comes from the
states.

The major reason for the high performance of the

Australian cricket: Australian cricket board

ACB’s revenue streams

The ACB has to develop well thought strategies which will give healthy revenue
streams. These income streams are split into television rights, match attendance,
sponsorships and licensing. to maximize these revenue they are led to intensive
marketing of cricket.

ACB’s marketing group:

ACB had to develop a brand image for cricket. Various advertising campaigns

be both inspirational and aspirational.

These aimed to recast the core traditions of the game.

Conclusion:-
ACB has a clear idea of what it wants to achieve and how it will do it. Sharing the
dream of cricket and providing opportunities for everyone to play the game easily
translates into a passion for winning at the international level. Moreover the brand
recognizes the work which it has to do to produce such great players who can
sustain peak performance. The work of organization has become so renowned that
players from overseas have applied and been accepted through the overseas
program. Although this act appears to be potentially self defeating as the ACB is
assisting the competition to improve themselves, Rod marsh said that from
Australia is one of the leading cricket nations, it’s their duty to help the game of
cricket develop in emerging countries. whatever be the reason but from
commercial point of view it’s been worthwhile and also the players get a fair
chance to prove themselves because they are so dedicated for the fair selection of
players that any chance of involvement of illegal means in the selection of players
is very less. ACB provides players with challenges which spur them to better
themselves to take the Australian cricket and the board at a greater height.
