CHAPTER- 1
INTRODUCTION To E-commerce
How did E-commerce start In India?
There is no denying the fact that e-commerce has re-entered India and is here to stay. Even the
small and medium retailers of the country want to ride the wave and are ready to make a fortune out
of the market place concept. It may be now that online shopping has become popular but the
concept of e-Commerce was introduced long back in the 20th century.

Which was the first Industry to start it?

Circa 2002: IRCTC teaches India to Book ticket online:
India first came into interaction with the online E-Commerce via the IRCTC. The government of
India experimented this online strategy to make it convenient for its public to book the train tickets.
Hence, the government came forward with the IRCTC Online Passenger Reservation System,
which for the first time encountered the online ticket booking from anywhere at any time. This was
a boon to the common man as now they dont have to wait for long in line, no issues for wastage of
time during unavailability of the trains, no burden on the ticket bookers and many more. The
advancements in the technology as the years passed on have been also seen in the IRCTC Online
system as now one can book tickets (tatkal, normal, etc.) on one go, easy payments, can check the
status of the ticket and availability of the train as well. This is a big achievement in the history of
India in the field of online E-Commerce.

IRCTC Website in August 2002

Functioning of Ecommerce:
Online shopping in its early stage was a simple medium for shopping with fewer options. The users
can just place an order and pay cash on delivery. But, in last few years this field has been renovated
to a high extent and hence fascinated many customers. Today, the online shopping has become a
trend in India and the reason behind the adoption of this technique lies in the attractive online
websites, user friendly interface, bulky online stores with new fashion, easy payment methods (i.e.
secure pay online via gateways like PayPal or cash-on-delivery), no bound on quantity & quality,
one can choose the items based on size, colour, price, etc.
Despite being a developing country, India has shown a commendable increase in the ecommerce
industry in the last couple of years, thereby hitting the market with a boom. Though the Indian
online market is far behind the US and the UK, it has been growing at a fast page.
Further, the addition of discounts, coupons, offers, referral systems, 30days return guarantee, 1-7
days delivery time, etc. to the online shopping and the E-Market have added new flavours to the
industry.

How it benefits organizations and customers?

Benefits of Ecommerce to organizations:
International marketplace. What used to be a single physical marketplace located in a
geographical area has now become a borderless marketplace including national and international
markets. By becoming e-commerce enabled, businesses now have access to people all around the
world. In effect all e-commerce businesses have become virtual multinational corporations

Operational cost savings. The cost of creating, processing, distributing, storing and retrieving
paper-based information has decreased.

8 | Page

Mass customization. E-commerce has revolutionized the way consumers buy goods and services.
The pull-type processing allows for products and services to be customized to the customers
requirements. In the past when Ford first started making motor cars, customers could have any
colours so long as it was black. Now customers can congure a car according to their specications
within minutes on-line via the www.ford.com website.

Lower telecommunications cost. The Internet is much cheaper than value added networks (VANs)
which were based on leasing telephone lines for the sole use of the organisation and its authorised
partners. It is also cheaper to send a fax or e-mail via the Internet than direct dialling.

No more 24-hour-time constraints. Businesses can be contacted by or contact customers or

suppliers at any time.

Benets of e-commerce to consumers:

24/7 access. Enables customers to shop or conduct other transactions 24 hours a day, all year round
from almost any location. For example, checking balances, making payments, obtaining travel and
other information. In one case a pop star set up web cameras in every room in his house, so that he
could check the status of his home by logging onto the Internet when he was away from home on
tour

More choices. Customers not only have a whole range of products that they can choose from and
customize, but also an international selection of supplier

Price comparisons. Customers can shop around the world and conduct comparisons either
directly by visiting different sites, or by visiting a single site where prices are aggregated from a
number of providers and compared

9 | Page

Merits and De-Merits of using Ecommerce:

MERITS:
1. Cost Effective
The entire financial transactions will eventually become electronic, so sooner conversion is going to
be lower on cost. It makes every transaction through e-commerce payment a lot cheaper.

2. Higher Margin
E-commerce also enables us to move better with higher margin for more business safety. Higher
margin also means business with more control as well as flexibility. You can also save time from the
e-commerce.

3. Better Productivity
Productivity here means productivity for both companies and customers. People like to find
answers online because it is faster and cheaper, and it costs a lot cheaper expense as well for the
company.

4. Quick Comparison
E-commerce also enables you to compare price among several providers. In the end, it leads you to
smart shopping. People can save more money while they shop.

5. Economy Benefit
E-commerce allows us to make transaction without any needs on stores, infrastructure investment,
and other common things we find. Companies only need well-built website and customer service.

10 | P a g e

De-Merits:
1. Security
Customers need to be confident and trust the provider of payment method. Sometimes, we can be
tricked. Examine on integrity and reputation of the web stores before you decide to buy.

2. Scalability of System
A company definitely needs a well-developed website to support numbers of customers at a time. If
your web destination is not well enough, you better forget it.

3. Integrity on Data and System

Customers need secure access all the time. In addition to it, protection to data is also essential.
Unless the transaction can provide it, we should refuse for e-commerce.

4. Products People
People who prefer and focus on product will not buy online. They will want to feel, try, and sit on
their new couch and bed.

5. Customer Service and Relation Problem

They sometimes forget how essential to build loyal relationship with customers. Without loyalty
from customers, they will not survive the business.

The disadvantages are not impossible to avoid. If we have enough management on risks, we may
really get a lot more advantages from e-commerce.

11 | P a g e

How Ecommerce provides a competitive edge to organizations?

E-commerce is indeed making its way into many B2B marketers must-have tool kit, as they believe
it will play a crucial role in their go-to-market approach. In a recent study, The Emerging Role of
B2B E-Commerce completed by B2B Magazine, it revealed that 31% of B2B marketers
considered themselves strong or complete adopters of e-commerce, compared to 25% who had
the same response in 2012. By 2014, 40% of B2B marketers expect to be as committed to ecommerce as a means of marketing and selling.

So why is e-commerce becoming so important to marketing teams? There are a variety of factors
that come into play. The evolution of e-commerce has allowed many businesses to reach a whole
new set of buyers, generate sales leads, create awareness, differentiate their products and services
from competitors, and gain market intelligence digitally and efficiently. And since there are only a
small, but increasing amount of B2B marketers who are e-commerce adopters today, this means that
they have a unique competitive advantage over other businesses that have not realized and adopted
this new shift. Marketers who have (or will soon) learned to use e-commerce as an effective weapon
can reap benefits that will allow their businesses to attract and retain customers, improve efficiency,
reduce enterprise cost, increase enterprise growth, create new products and services, and expand
into new markets and geographies.

Conclusion: In todays world were the organization works in spheres of technology, innovation and speed an
organization cannot elude the blimey of E-commerce benefits towards day-to-day functioning of
business and growth of potential customers across boundaries, interstate. Thus E-commerce provide
a platform to reach out to your potential customers and outreach them. A customer can be easily tab
due to an unceasing reach because of mobile networks were the customer is available. Hence
organizations cannot do without the bliss of E-commerce in present scenario.

Findings

According to customer details we met small retail shops and try to convince them to buy
our product but mostly we got negative comments and some shopkeeper are interested.

E-commerce is a totally new concept in India and it has an excessive scope to rapidly
growth in the Indian market.

Palenge is one stop solution for e-commerce and digital marketing that allows you to set
up an online store to sell your goods. It lets you organize your products, customize your
storefront, accept credit card payments, track and respond to orders all with a few
clicks of the mouse.

Palenge is web based ecommerce software. This means theres no installation required
and it works with all operating systems. We host Palenge so you dont have to worry
about installing, upgrading or maintaining any software or web servers.

While working with Palenge I had learn to interact with customers easily and fluent
way

It gives us opportunity to learn how actually the market works and what does online
marketing means and how it function

It is a good experience to learn some technical work such as creation of domain.

In field work we daily mets shopkeepers and know their views and ideas.

Chapter 07
Recommendation

To improve the delivery services or courier services

Palenge provide only cash on delivery but they should be modify online payment system
and introduce debit card and credit card facility

To buy bulk amount of product and sell directly to the end consumer such like snap deal,
quicker

Conclusion:
As many e-commerce industries are entering with new and innovative technique which increases
the competition in the e-commerce market. Knowing the e-commerce market it is great challenge in
e-commerce market. Customer satisfaction study would help to understand the importance of
various factor influencing and contributing to satisfied customers of the company. It will help to
company to improve their service quality.0

Conducing the project work was great learning experience, we have got lot of exposure of
important aspects of corporate world which will help us in our professional life. I would also
thankful to our franchise, Mr. Viral Shah who gives us opportunity to learn about E-commerce in a
practical way.

I would also find many weak points in Palenge, such as delivery system, pay pal system which can
be improved by company. As our company named as Palenge which mean sab kuch paa lena and
as due to hard working one day the company will able to achieve its objective.
