ORDINARY IME

TWENTY FIFTH SUNDAY IN

Dear Parishioners,
In the first reading today from Wisdom we see how the virtuous person
mocked and ridiculed by the godless person. St. James reminds us that
when those in jealousy, ambition and self-seeking there in disharmony
and wickedness whereas gentleness and mercy lead to peace.
In the gospel, St Mark tells of Jesus second attempt to explain to his
disciples that he is destined to suffer and be betrayed. We saw last week
how Jesus had to speak to Peter: Get behind me, Satan; your way of
thinking is mans way, not Gods So Jesus tries again to explain that he
must suffer but they did not understand what he said and were afraid
to ask. I think they knew very well, but they didnt want to hear the
message!! So they decided to talk and argue about something else: who
was/is the greatest?
They are very embarrassed when Jesus asked them what they were
discussing. They completely ignored the important message that Jesus
was telling them. He then gave the example of real greatness the child
who is trusting, vulnerable and dependent is what real trust in God is
about. It is not about control and authority, but service to others.
REPORT FROM THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING, WEDNESDAY
LAST:
On the Agenda we discussed: Proclaim 15, the Finances and fundraising in
the parish; we need to have a Planned Giving Campaign; child protection;
health and Safety; The Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity planned events;
changes in the Priest Reference forms for Schools applications; the
reviewing of agencies in the Diocese and them worked on our response to
the MIGRANT CRISIS.
We felt we needed to respond to the needs of these people, children,
women and men whom we have seen on our TVs and those we havent
seen. Strangely enough, there were more questions than answers. But we
have begun a process.
- We noted what we are doing already for refugees and needy in our
parish activities.
- We were asking who are the refugees knocking on our door; where have
may come from; how long will they stay; what help can we give? What will
they need? Where will all this leave other migrant and homeless already
in the UK?

- We need to work with all organisations and parishes who are trying to
respond.
- We need to find out immediately what our Borough of Haringey intends
doing, this is being followed up. We would hope to have an open meeting
with representatives from Haringey Council and others, to see how we can
work together.
- What is Caritas Westminster and other agencies in dioceses planning to
do?
- A national Refugee Welcome Board has been set up which provide
practical support and guidance so thats another group to be part of.
- What are the terms and conditions that need to be agreed?
We have made a small start on a long road ahead!!!
Fr. Joe
