optimistic association ought to be formed. Personnel, workers of firm are the

towards responsibilities completion.

methods. In reality some firms realize the fact that workers are the major
part of the firms and they can get the targets of the firms. If the workers of
the firms are not happy, they will not take interest in attaining the targets of

Building and Sustaining a Successful
Workplace Environment
Today, an organizations success depends on the collective wisdom of all its
employees. Leaders play an important role in guiding workers to use their
collective power effectively and in developing an environment that fosters
trust and respect.
Following are ten strategies leaders can employ to make a positive difference
in their organizations.
1.
Create trust. Encourage open communication by openly sharing
information and knowledge. Show vulnerability by being honest and
admitting mistakes. Encourage others to share their thoughts and feelings.

2. Communicate and listen. Listen far more than you speak. Find out what is
in the minds and hearts of your people. Ask for their suggestions and
opinions on their work.
3. Give feedback. Establish specific performance standards, set goals, set
deadlines, and communicate these expectations regularly. Take time to give
honest feedback. Encourage people to stretch and take risks.
4. Give recognition and praise. Be free with recognition and praise people for
good performance. Show appreciation by giving additional responsibility and
authority, and room to grow.
5. Practice being a situational leader. Diagnose and respond to the needs of
individuals, groups, and teams by providing direction, information, resources,
and training as needed.
6. Introduce new learning opportunities. Provide ongoing training and
development for both content and/or technical skills and soft skills. Give
people tough jobs and tasks that expand their skills, and assignments that
demand creativity. Encourage and challenge them to take risks and step
outside their comfort zone.
7. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings. Do not underestimate the power of
supporting an
employee or learner to share his or her truth. Find out what is really
important to him or her to make him or her feel special and heard. It allows
you to learn what is important to that person and ultimately to you.
8. Charter the team or department. Charter the group or team, including
defining the purpose, goals and objectives, norms for operating together,
and how to hold people accountable. Without this solid foundation, any group
can flounder.
9. Process all meetings. At the end of every meeting, spend a few minutes to
process what went well, what didnt go well, and what could be done
differently. This is a simple improvement tool that helps people work together
more effectively. A process observer can be appointed to observe during the
meeting and call time out if people are violating the teams norms.
10. Share information and knowledge. Support and encourage knowledge
and information sharing. Conduct monthly chats, establish Web sites, or form

communities of practice to keep people informed. Reward and recognize

behaviors that support and encourage knowledge and information sharing.

Two types of working environment

Environment of work affects the working styles of employees. As
work environment is of two types Physical and behavioral work
environment. In physical work environment it keeps the
importance of office location, facilities of job, technology and tools
for working that affect the motivation of employees. Behavioral
environment keeps the interaction of worker with other
employees and management of the organization, how they
correspond and communicate each other.
Creating a Positive Work Environment
First, lets be realistic. No one enjoys work every day. We all wake up on time on
the wrong side of the bed, and just dont feel like working.
We have a lot to say about the work environment that we provide for our
employees. And we have a responsibility to do our best to create an environment
where the vast majority of our staff truly enjoys coming to work each and every
day.
What we can do for that:
1. Create a workplace that provides meaning and purpose for our employees. A
place where they feel they are making a difference in the lives.
2. Go out of your way to say thank you and show your appreciation when staff
members go above and beyond and walk towards their choices.
3. Encourage your staff to find and utilize their talents. This includes talking to
your employees, especially those who are not performing up to your expectations
level.
4. Spend money on the work environment-it is a wise investment. Little things
can go a long way in improving the work environment.

5. Encouragement is also a part to be followed in every organization

6. Give verbal and written communication to individuals and the group for jobs
well done.
7. Find reasons to celebrate together, such as birthdays, birth of a baby, marriage
etc., and have small parties to celebrate these events. Its especially good to
share your celebration with all the shifts on your unit by asking food services to
provide a cake, and putting up a sign or banner in the break room saying Today
We Are Celebrating. By celebrating together you will be connecting
the entire staff.
8. Let them know that you are also part of the team by asking your staff what
they need from you to make their job more satisfactory, and doing your best to
provide it.
9. Schedule stretch exercises that you do together before report. Have different
staff members lead the exercises each day.
10. Ensure that humor is part of the daily work environment.

11. Do problem solving and awareness exercise at staff meetings? For example:
Have your staff members ask them to tell about their positive & native about the
person so that this will really improve both the sides
