Rules of the Academic Cup
Eligibility:

All degree-seeking undergraduate students who are registered in a BA Major (i.e., IBBA, ABS, GBS,
IBCE, BBA-JD, PACC, HTMG, IFAA, QFIN, QFRM, GLEF, and BBBAB) at CUHK are eligible to
apply.

Team formation:

Each team should comprise four (4) BA undergraduate students, and you are encouraged to form a
team with students from different other BA programs.

Each student should enroll in one team only.

Each team needs to nominate a captain. All communications will be channelled to the captain only and
directly.

Registration:

Interested students should complete an online registration form via the following link,
http://www3.baf.cuhk.edu.hk/bba/casecomp/caseReg.asp.

Registration starts on September 7, 2015 (Monday) and closes at noon of September 11, 2015 (Friday).

Competition format:

A case selected by the Undergraduate Office (UGO) of CUHK Business School will be sent to the team
captain 48 hours before the presentation (i.e., 09:00 on September 24, 2015, Thursday).

Teams are required to prepare a PowerPoint presentation in English.

No visual aids other than the PowerPoint presentation or calculation devices are allowed during the
presentation.

Each team will be asked to provide the PowerPoint Presentation file to the organizer in a CD-ROM on
the event date (September 26, 2015), and the CD-ROM will NOT be returned to all teams after
submission.

Teams are instructed to prepare and ready their spare soft copy for presentation.

Teams are expected to arrive at the presentation venue(s) at least 5 minutes early before the assigned
presentation time.

Each member of the team must participate in the oral presentation, and the presentation must be in
English.

Regardless of whether the team enters into the Final Round or not, all teams are invited to stay for the
Final Round at LT3, YIA.

The Academic Cup will be divided into two sessions: Preliminary Round and Final Round.

Preliminary Round:

The Preliminary Round will be divided into 8 divisions.

Teams will be assigned to different divisions and the order of presentation in the Preliminary
Round will be determined by computer randomization in the morning of September 26, 2015.

Any team who does not show up by 09:45 on September 26, 2015 will be disqualified.

ONLY the team who is going to have presentation in the assigned timeslot/lecture room will be
allowed to remain in the room.

The teams are NOT allowed to watch any of the other teams presentations in the Preliminary
Round.

Each team will be required to give an oral presentation in English on the case according to the
following time frame:

Team presentation

The presenting team will be notified by a 2-minute to-go signage when two minutes are
left for the presentation.

Team will be asked to stop immediately when the allocated time is up. There will be NO buffer
time. Any team who DOES NOT stop immediately will be disqualified automatically.

There will be NO Q&A session in the Preliminary Round.

The judges will only select ONE team from each division to go into the Final Round.

Final Round:

Finalists from each division are required to present their case again in the Final Round.

Each team will be required to give an oral presentation in English on the case according to
following time frame:

Q&A by Judges

The presenting team will be notified by a 2-minute to-go signage when two minutes are

and there will be NO buffer time.

All finalists should not be seated at the theatre to watch the presentation of other groups
preceding them.

Judges:

The panel of judges will be composed of BA Alumni and industry leaders.

Judging criteria:

The performance of each team will be assessed according to the following criteria on a 10 point grading
scale:Items

applicable, key subsidiary issues

Analysis the team provided thorough analysis which showed strong evidence, and
addressed the key issues

recommendations

Implementation the team formulated the action plan, timeline and financials clearly

Presentation the team delivered the presentation persuasively and professionally,


with a good quality of visual aid

Innovation and creativity the team demonstrated innovative and creative thinking in
developing a strategy

Q&A the team addressed the questions effectively, appropriately and with confidence
(applicable to Final Round only)

Photo-taking and video shooting:

Photo-taking and video recording will be carried out throughout the course of Final Round.

All team members who participate in the Academic Cup 2015 hereby grant permission to the
Undergraduate Office (UGO) of CUHK Business School and its representatives to take photographs or
videos of them and to make recordings of their voices.

In line of this permission, participants of Academic Cup 2015 further grant UGO and its representatives
the right to reproduce, use, exhibit, display, broadcast and distribute these images, recordings and any
form of my presentation materials in any media now known or later developed for promoting,
publicizing or explaining UGO and its activities and for administrative, educational or research
purposes.
