Building Materials

To develop conventional concrete by using different admixtures

Building Materials

To develop light weight concrete

Details of Research Work Carried out in the Department of Civil engineering

Research work
All the replacement materials stated below were tested for Strength, Durability parameters (i.e.,
Acid, sulphate, Chloride attack tests, Rapid Chloride Permeability Test).
1. Replacement of Cement was done by different mineral admixtures like fly ash, silica fume, Ground
Granulated Blast furnace slag, Rice ash, Metakaolin, Aluminium Dross all these admixtures are
waste by products of different industries.
2. Replacement of Coarse aggregate was done by fly ash pellets and recycled aggregates.
3. Replacement of Fine aggregates was done by quarry dust, bottom ash.GBFS
Future Plan
1. It is proposed to procure a loading frame of 10 tonnes capacity for testing beams, (T beam, L
beam) Columns, Slabs under various loading conditions and to determine long and short term
deflections.
2. We are planning to establish Dynamic loading setup and related software in order to find the
dynamic frequencies for structural elements.
3. We are planning to procure XRD and SEM analysis related softwares in order to find the possible
chemical compounds and bonding properties in cement concrete composites.
Expected outcome:
1. To know the effective dosage (replacements) of mineral admixtures and their effective utilization
in the concrete field.
2. By performing XRD analysis we will find the new possible chemical compounds cement concrete
composites.
17. Research and development (R &D)
