Potentiodynamicelectrochemicalimpedance
spectroscopy(PDEIS)isthetechniquefor
versatilecharacterisationofelectrochemical
responsesofinterfacialprocessesandstructures.
PDEISacquiresvariablefrequencyresponsesin
alternatingcurrentandapotentiodynamicdc
voltammograminthesamepotentialscan,by
probingtheelectrochemicalinterfacewith
streamsofmutuallycoordinatedwavelets.
PDEISvirtualspectrometerprogramacquiresa
potentiodynamicimpedancespectrumbya
commonpotentiostatconnectedtoacomputer
withADC/DACinterface.Theobjectisplaced
inacommonthreeelectrodeelectrochemicalcell
andthespectraareusuallyrecordedin
bidirectionalpotentialscans,whichgive
additionalinformationontheextentof
reversibilityofdifferentconstituentprocesses
thatcontributetothefrequencyresponseofa
nonstationaryelectrochemicalinterface.
Virtualinstrumentsimplementboththe
acquisitionandanalysisofthepotential
dependentelectrochemicalresponse.Inthe
potentialscan,themultivariatedataanalysis
givesaPDEISspectrumandavoltammogramin
a3Dplotonacomputerscreen.Afterthescan,a
builtinequivalentelectriccircuitanalyser
decomposestheacpartoftheinterfaceresponse
intoconstituentsrelatedtodifferentinterfacial
processesandstructures.Thus,potentiodynamic
electrochemicalimpedancespectroscopy
characterises,inasinglepotentialscan,different
interrelatedprocesses(interfacialchargetransfer,
diffusion,adsorption,etc.)andinterfacial
structures(doubleelectriclayer,spacecharge
layers,etc.)atnonstationaryelectrochemical
interface.Theseparationoftheconstituentac
responseshasenabledmultiparametric
monitoringofatomiclayerbylayerdeposition
inmultilayerassembly,characterisationof
nonstationarysemiconductorsystemsby
acquisitionofvariableMottSchottkyplots,
monitoringofnonstationarystagesof
electropolymerisationandmutuallycorrelated
adsorptionofcationsandanions.
