FABRICATION OF AUTOMATIC PNEUMATIC CONTROLLED


SHEET CLAMPING AND BENDING DEVICE

OBJECTIVE;
1. To increase the productivity and to overcome skilled labour shortage,
2. To eliminating or reducing machine set up .
3. utilizing automated features to replace manual intervention.
4. providing quick transfer devices to keep the machines in the cutting
cycle.

PROJECT BACKGROUND ;
In sheet metal work , the given sheet is lamped in vice and then bend
to require size with wooden mallet takes longtime and for the higher
production this manual process is obsolete one. Hence we go for automatic
operation with electronic control .Hence this device is used for automatic
clamping and bending the sheet metal work.

SYNOPSIS;
We selected FABRICATION OF AUTOMATIC PNEUMTAIC
CONTROLLED SHEET CLAMPING AND BENDING DEVICE as our
project work and the clamping and bending is done automatically by the
double acting cylinders which are actuated through the 5/2 way solenoid
directional control valves . These solenoid valve are actuated by the timer
circuit with the limit switches.
There are two cylinders are used to clamp and bend the job.. One
cylinder is used for clamping and another cylinder is used for bending
operation. When the push button is pressed the clamping cylinder clamps the
job and also press the limit switch which activate the second solenoid valve
and hence the bending cylinder bends the job. The timer circuit switches off
the supply to the both the solenoid valves and hence the both the cylinders
are return to original position.

ADVANTAGES
The main advantages of this attachment is termed as follows:
1. The use of air cylinder reduces operator effort
2. Operator effort was reduced considerably and the job made much
easier and faster
3. Air clamping device is quicker in action more constant in clamping
proper and more convenient than hand operated clamps and save
human energy
4. Increases the versatility of machining performed
5. Reduces waste motions which cause fatigues to worker
6. Considerable savings in time are possible from the use of air clamps
7. The average ratio of clamping time for a component between manual
operation and air operation is approximately 4:1

automatically located without any alignment to the machine tools.


9. Increases productivity due to increasing the speed, feed and depth of
cut. This becomes possible due to higher clamping rigidity.
10.Air clamping can be controlled more uniformly than manual
clamping, thus reducing tendencies for work piece breakage or
distortion and insufficient grip. The savings so far indicated in
addition to the energy and strain serve the operator; it has been proved
conclusively that operator fatigue can be greatly reduced by the use of

pneumatic clamping means where large exertions not be made. Also


operator straining himself on large manual clamping device has
caused physical impairment.
11.Decreases expenditure on quality control of the machined parts

uniform, and are controlled by operator with minimum fatigue.
