Note:
To insure the longest possible consumable life, it is strongly
recommended that all the consumables listed above be replaced at
the same time. Not replacing all the consumables at the same time
will decrease the life of the consumables.
NCR or Carbonless paper has chemical composition which damages
the consumables listed above. Cleaning of these items will be
needed more frequently to avoid feed problems. Also their life will be
reduced if this paper is scanned.

REPLACING THE PAD

Multiple feeds and misfeeds can be caused by a worn or improperly
installed Pad. The life span of the Pad Assembly is approximately
600,000 pages. If NCR or carbonless paper is used the life span of the
Pad may be decreased by half.

Make sure there is no paper

CLEANING THE CONSUMABLE FEED COMPONENTS

It is very important to clean the scanner consumables on a regular basis
to avoid mis-picking, double feeding and paper jam problems. These
items should be cleaned every 10,000 sheets. More frequent cleaning
will be required if scanning paper with a large amount of printing,
documents filled out in pencil, or carbonless multipart forms.
Note:
Proper cleaning of the Pad, Pick Rollers, Brake Roller and Separation
Rollers will increase the life of each component.

CLEANING THE PINCH AND FEED ROLLERS

It is very important to clean the scanner pinch and feed rollers on a
regular basis to avoid paper feeding problems. These rollers should be
cleaned every 10,000 sheets. More frequent cleaning will be required
if scanning paper with a large amount of printing, documents filled
out in pencil, or carbonless multipart forms.
Feed Rollers

Roller Types
The fi-5900C and fi-5950
Scanners have nine sets of
Pinch and Feed Rollers with
two rollers on each shaft. The
Pinch Rollers are the upper set
of rollers (grey rollers in
drawing to the right). The Feed
Rollers are the lower set of
rollers (black rollers in the
drawing to the right).

Pinch Rollers

Feed Rollers

NOTE!

The fi-5900C Scanner can have either Rubber or Metal Feed Rollers
installed. It is very important to know what rollers are installed because
the fluids used to clean the different type of rollers is different.

All fi-5950 Scanners have Rubber Feed Rollers installed.

Identifying Rubber Rollers

Any fi-5900C Scanner, Serial Number 100001 and above has Rubber
Rollers installed.
Any scanner that was upgraded to Rubber Rollers will have a
Rubber Roller Label installed on the front of the scanner.

The table below lists the cleaners for each roller type.
