Fantasy
after Heitor Villa-Lobos
For Guitar

Heitor Villa-Lobos is one of Brazils most celebrated composers of the 20th Century.
This piece is not intended to rival his great works but to replicate and recontextualise
his motifs and gestures in a way that reflects life in Brazil now. As we have reached
the new Century; it seems wise to consider out position: what once was, is no more.
Manifestations of turmoil and discours are rife within this work. This piece is aimed
to be the polar opposite of the guitar music Villa-Lobos wrote, their
aim was to replicate the halcyon lifestyles of Brazil which seems, to us
in our modern context, twistedly ironic.
If you are aware of Villa-Lobos' guitar repertoire, you will be able to notice
several of the guitar pieces in question that have been quoted:
Choro No.1 and the five Preludes
being prime examples.
