Character Trait: Humility
The character trait which I want to improve upon is Humility, there are instances were leaders
show case their emotional skills by being empathetic and respectful with the people around
them. Leaders are always self-aware and lead changes whenever required; I believe that selfawareness is most important area that I need to focus upon.
There are instances in my MBA programme where I had be completely dependent on others
and waiting for others to take the charge, while I could have moved in first and saved time
and resources. I also feel that I need to be more respectful towards others as there were times
when I had heated arguments with others which have resulted in negative image of me being
portrayed among others. There are no leaders without followers and if people around you
starting disliking you it will diminish your value as a leader.
Confronting people is good up to a point where it is constructive confrontation but when that
point is overshot the situation becomes difficult to manage and draw conclusions out of it. A
humble leader always reflects humility by constructively confronting people but there are two
instances where I believe that point was overshoot by great distance and situation become
adverse while others had to step in as mediators. I sometimes think that I have mastered a
course or subject by scoring good marks or performing better than others but I need to be a
continuous learner as it will not increase my appetite for learning but also make work hard for
things. I also tend to expect more out of people without understanding their needs and
situation they are in, this even further hampers my relation with them.
I believe that I need to show more respect towards others and be more grateful to them
especially when people try to help me out in difficult situations. This will enhance the
relationship between me and others. This will also help in increasing my emotional
intelligence and will give me more understanding about how others think me as a leader.
During my discussions with group, they also agreed with my point of view. They pointed out
situations where I needed to be more humble and empathetic towards others especially when
it is moving towards a heated argument. Once the corporate life starts, there it humility will
always help me to bind more with people and will tell me how much to expect from a person.

Competencies: Understanding and Knowledge


I believe that understanding and knowledge are competencies which I need to work upon it
and this will further improve my character trait of humility. Understanding the context
between relationships is most important area that I want to focus on whereas knowledge will
further enhance my understanding of outcomes.
Under situations I tend to comprehend on the basis of what I have faced in past or what I
have herds from my friends but I need to learn that each situation or problem has its
significance and hence each attribute or person may behave differently in these situations. To
achieve this I need to be continuous learner and need to see things from different lens to
completely understand what the underlying context of situation is.
I need to widen my scope of thoughts so that I understand how much effort is required for a
particular situation and need to see the linkage between the events so that I can connect the
dots for the same.
Knowledge of facts, figures and concepts will help me analysing the situations and take
prudent decisions not only for myself but for the organization or business that I land in near
future. Intellectual leaders need an amalgam of knowledge and understanding to be
successful in their endeavours. I also tend to misinterpret the facts, if the situation is
relatively newer, complex or something I havent heard of.
I need to increase my knowledge base in subjects that I study or take upon as a project so that
I can be more precise in analysing and taking decisions. I also need be able to remove the
clutter and work with information, data or context which relevant and is more significant for
the situation.
When I presented my view points to my group members they also agreed to my views and
even pointed out the fact that building competencies like knowledge and understanding will
help in shaping my character trait of humility as these both are linked to humility up to
certain level. Also, when I increase my knowledge base it will help pick up those facts and
figures which are important for the situation remove the clutter which will in turn improve
my understanding of context problems which I will face in future.
