1. Scope of Works

Scope of Activities

Some Electrical conduits shall be installed concealed/cast-in or surfaced-run in the


concrete slab/wall according to the construction co-ordination drawings. For those cast-in or
concealed conduit we have to ensure that we need to install it before the concrete cast-in so
that conduit can penetrate by the M & E consultant.

Site Procedure

Method Statement

1. Preparation Stage
a. Selection and sample submission of material as per specification by consultant.
b. Identifying installation method whether concealed / cast-in or surfaced-run as per
given specification.
c. For concealed or cast-in conduits must be complete with proper fittings and
accessories for both PVC or G.I. conduits.
d. For surfaced-run conduits, most widely used is G.I. conduits complete with fittings
and accessories.
e. Accessories used for the support of conduit both G.I. or PVC varies with method of
support. The most common being the conduit saddles. The spacing between
supports must comply with specifications by engineers, foreman and sub-contractor.

Co-ordination with main contractor on the proposed routing by Engineer/Supervisor.

g. Preparation of detail shop drawings for the proposed mounting method including
support system by Engineer.
h. Conduit samples of the correct class must be subscripted for approval by consultant
prior to purchase of Engineer.

2. Installation stage

a. Site survey of the proposed cable routing based on approved CSD by foreman /
sub-contractor together with Engineer.
b. Installation shall be carried out based on approved shop drawings & material used
shall be of approved brand.
c. Mark the exact position of the conduit route with the blue marker string and then

install conduit saddles.


d. Install the correct size of the conduits, by clamping with saddles by foreman / subcontractor.
e. Check to ensure no sharp edges within the conduit joints for surfaced conduit and to
ensure proper bonding for all conduit joint for concealed PVC conduit by foreman /
skill worker / sub-contractor.

Conduits shall run vertically or horizontally only for surfaced run conduits.

g. After installation of conduit, Engineer-in-charge shall check the complete works and
complete the Inspection checklist for Electrical conduit installation works. ( Refer to
Appendix 1 )
h. Engineer-in-charge shall arrange and request for inspections with the Owners
representative M&E clerks of works (COW) using approved Main Contractor
Request for Inspection (RIN) form ( Refer to Appendix 2 )

Where installed within switches, distribution boards, control panels and the like,
wiring shall be neatly and carefully bunched, being adequately supported and held
in position by means of supports or brackets or insulating material as necessary.

Approved Materials

All metal conduits shall be class 4 heavy gauge screwed steel conduits
complying with BS 4568: part 1: 1970 and BS EN 50086-1:1994, BS
Conduit G.I.

EN 50086-2:1996. The conduit and all ancillary items shall be hot-dip


galvanized to BS EN ISO 1461:1999. Only galvanized fittings and
components shall be used with galvanized conduit.

All PVC conduit shall be of heavy gauge high-compact complying with

BS 4607: part 1:1984 and BS EN 50086-2-1:1996.


No conduit of less than 20mm diameter shall be used.

4. Access / Egress

i.

Proper step ladders shall be provided for access and egress into trenches as
applicable.

ii.

All workers working at height shall equip themselves with proper attire including full
body harness if height >2 meters and additional with shock absorbers if height >4
meters. The harness lanyard shall be secured to the various secure points.

5. Lighting
Adequate temporary/task lighting shall be provided if work to be carried at night or at
dark places.

8. Hazardous Materials & Substances


Not Applicable.

9. Waste Management
i. The rubbish which would be created from our scope of works will be disposed to the

designated dumping ground.


ii. All waste materials to be placed at the designated waste bins according to types.
iii. The general waste will be collected / disposal periodically by licensed waste collector.

10. Special Control Measures


i. The following general control measures against Safety, Environment and Quality shall
be required for our scope of work and special control measures are not applicable for
us
Scaffolding must be properly erected by quality erector & must have valid
green pass.
Proper PPE must be worn at all time.
Daily tool box meeting to be arranged before start work.
Regular maintenance will be carried out to the tools and equipment in
accordance to manufactures recommendation to ensure that they are in good
and safe working condition.
All workers are taught and trained with basic safety knowledge by using
proper PPE while working.
All area will be kept tidy.
Supervisors inspection will be carried out at every stage and quality of work
will be assured on each drawing.

ii. Emergency
In case of emergency, all workers should cease working and the Safety
Supervisor, and the above mentioned Lifting Supervisor (Whom is on duty) should be
notified. Upon doing so, the SSYENC SHE Manager / Officer must be notified. At the
same time, all personnel involved in the operation should assemble at the designated

General Notes:
1. The contents of this method statement should be communicated with the site workforces
who are involved with the activities.
2. An Accepted copy of this method statement should be available at the work locations
at all times during work.
