The fabric shall be 1200 or 1800 mm wide with a uniform 50 mm diamond pattern chain-link mesh closed at
one edge by knuckling and at the other edge by twisting. The fence wire shall be one of the following types:
a) Type 1, Steel Fabric; Class A, Zinc-Coated Galvanized After Weaving (GAW); Style 2, Medium, 3.5 mm;
Grade 2, Galvanizing Thickness.
b) Type 1, Steel Fabric; Class B, Zinc-Coated Galvanized Before Weaving (WGW); Style 2, Medium,
3.5 mm; Grade 2, Galvanizing Thickness.
c) Type 1, Steel Fabric; Class D, Vinyl-Coated; Style 1, Heavy, 4.26 mm.
d) Type 1, Steel Fabric; Class D, Vinyl-Coated; Style 2, Medium, 3.76 mm.
e) Type 2, Aluminum Alloy Fabric; Style 1, Heavy, 5.0 mm.
Chain-link fence fabric placed less than 10 m from the edge of outside shoulder shall be constructed with
materials described in a), b), or c). Chain-link fence placed more than 10 m from the edge of outside shoulder
shall be constructed with materials described in a), b), c), d), or e).
The vinyl coating for wire fabric shall be grey in colour.

All posts and rails shall be galvanized steel pipe and shall be according to CAN/CGSB 138.2.
1541.05.03
The top wires and diagonal wire braces shall be 5 mm diameter single strand galvanized steel wire according
to CAN/CGSB 138.2 or marcelled tension wire type II according to ASTM A 824. The bottom wires shall be
3.5 mm diameter single strand galvanized steel wire according to CAN/CGSB 138.2.
When vinyl coated top and bottom wires are used, they shall match the colour of the vinyl coated fence fabric.
1541.05.04
Gates
Gates shall be constructed from galvanized steel pipe frames and braces according to CAN/CGSB 138.4. All
joints shall be electrically welded and coated with a zinc rich paint after welding.
1541.05.05
All required fittings and hardware and galvanizing of such parts shall be according to CAN/CGSB 138.2.
Fasteners for attaching fence fabric to posts, bottom wires, top rails, and top wires shall be 3.5 mm diameter
aluminum or galvanized steel wire or 1.5 mm diameter stainless steel wire. Fasteners shall have the same
coating as the fence fabric.
Tension bars and tension bands shall be according to ASTM F 626.
Barbed wire arms shall be fabricated from aluminum or galvanized steel according to CAN/CGSB 138.2 or
ASTM F 626 and shall match the fence fabric material.
1541.05.06
Turnbuckles
Turnbuckles shall be drop forged steel according to ASTM A 27M and shall be galvanized according to CSA
G164M.
The average overall length shall be approximately 30 cm with ends in the closed position. Bolt diameter shall
be approximately 10 mm and capable of taking up a minimum of 150 mm slack.
