SVAs Pre-College Program is designed for high school

students who want to enhance their creative skills, learn more about a
particular field of art, develop a portfolio, and experience the challenges
and triumphs that exist at one of the most dynamic colleges. Courses
are taught by the same faculty of leading art professionals who teach in
SVAs undergraduate degree programs. Students will explore the fundamentals of art and design at a level not readily available in high school.
Students will receive one college credit for successful completion of the
fall or spring programs and three credits for the successful completion
of the summer program. The fall and spring programs are open to all
students who will be enrolled in high school at the time of the program.
The summer program is an intensive three-week session in July, and
is open to students entering their senior, junior or sophomore year of
high school in the fall. Space is limited to approximately 20 students per
course and registration may be completed online. Please visit sva.edu/pc
and select the semester of interest to view the course offerings, course
descriptions and to register online. Registration is based on a first-come,
first-served basis. Application materials are not required to attend. Please
email precollege@sva.edu with any questions.

Cartooning 10am-1pm

Monday, July 11 Friday, July 29

Approximately 400 students from around the world participate in the summer program. Students explore a
range of topics within a chosen field of study. Summer classes are taught Monday through Friday from 9:00am to
4:00pm and students may register for only one course. The summer program also offers a comprehensive program of activities that takes full advantage of the social and cultural life of New York City. Activities such as guided
tours of museums, gallery visits, Broadway shows and other events help to fully introduce the student to the SVA
student experience. All students, family and friends are welcome to attend the final student exhibition and screening on the last Friday of the program. Approximately 200 students reside in SVA housing and registration for the
dorms is on a first-come, first served basis. Summer program registration begins in January and is ongoing until
individual classes reach capacity. For complete information on course offerings, course descriptions, housing,
online registration and other relevant details, please visit sva.edu/pc and select Summer Program.

PORTFOLIO PRESENTATIONS FOR ENTRANCE TO AN ART COLLEGE:

The care with which an applicant presents and discusses his/her work can play an important part in the admissions and
scholarship decisions at art colleges. As a part of the Pre-College summer program, all students are invited to attend a
Portfolio Workshop Presentation where admissions counselors will show examples of artwork submitted by previous SVA
students as well as examples of scholarship-level artwork. Pre-College students gain a better understanding as to what they
need to do to prepare for an admissions art portfolio if they decide to apply to an art college. Pre-College students are given
the opportunity to show their art portfolio to an admissions counselor during the program to discuss ideas on how to evolve
their personal concepts and art process in order to help build a stronger and more expressive portfolio.
NOTE: Pre-College courses may include the use of nude models. Curriculum and faculty are subject to change. Please visit
sva.edu/pc for the most current details on course offerings and faculty.
