potential,allowingthemtotakeanactioninvolvinguptofourdynamic
advantagesandtwostaticadvantages.
Generallyonlyanexpertataparticulartaskwillhaveenoughappropriate
advantagestouseallsixoftheirpotentialinoneaction.Mostcharacters,most
ofthetime,willhavetwotofoursuitableadvantagesforanygiventask.A
characterwithsparedynamicpotentialmaybeabletoconcentrateforanextra
1d6+0ontheaction.Thisdependsonthesituationandmayhavedrawbacksif
somethingunexpectedhappens.

Anunpreparedcharacterwillhave
somedynamicpotentialalreadyintheir
spentpile.
Someonecaughtcompletelyby
surprise,forexampleiftheywere
sleeping,wouldbeginthecombatwith
alltheirdynamicpotentialinthespent
pile.
TakingTurns
Combatisdividedintorounds.Duringaroundeachplayerandallopponents
haveaturn.AttheendofeachturntheplayerorGameLeadernominatesthe
nextpersontohavetheirturn.Thismustbesomeonewhohasnotyethada
turnthisround.Ifeveryonehasalreadyhadaturntheroundfinishes,anew
roundbeginsandtheplayermaynominateanyoneexceptthemselves.
PlayersandGameLeaderscanoverridethenominationprocessbyseizingthe
initiative.Thiscostspotentialandsuccessisnotguaranteed.
Acting
Wheneveracharactertakesanactiontheymustspendpotential,oneper
advantagebeingused.Staticadvantagescoststaticpotential,dynamic
advantagescostdynamicpotential.Theusedpotentialismovedtothespent

Charactersmaytakeanynumberof
actionsduringtheirturn,whichends

Recoup
Duringtheirturnacharactermayrecouptwodynamicpotentialtokens.

recoup,allowingthemtorecouponedynamicpotentialtoken,thenact,then

Charactersmovebytakingactions.Iftheyhaveanadvantagewiththe
Movementkeywordtheymayuseitincombinationwithotheradvantagesfora
singlelargemovement.

dynamicpotentialandplayershaveachoicetoeithermoseyorrun.

Runislesspredicablebutcantakeyoufurther.Roll1d6+0tothedeterminethe
distancemoved.
Charactersmaymoveseveraltimesinaturnbytakingmultiplemovement
actions,switchingbetweenmoseyingandrunningasdesired.
BeingAttacked
Anytimeacharacterisattacked(byanopponentoratraporanythingwhich
endangersthecharacter)theyhavearesistanceactiontoprotectthemselves.
Theresistanceactionisthesameasanormalaction,requiringpotentialtobe
spentonadvantageswhichareappropriateandavailable.
Theresistancemayinvolvepassivedefences,suchasarmour,orthemore
activeprotectionofdodgingorparrying.Itcanalsoinvolvecounterattackswith
weapons,includingreturningfire.Anythingwhichreducesthethreatormakesit
harderfortheattackerisavalidformofdefence.Theresistanceactionmust
makesenseforthetypeofattackandtheadvantagesusedindefencemustbe
compatiblewitheachother.
Eachcharacterhasafreeresistadvantagelistedontheircharactersheet.This
advantagecanbeusedinaresistanceactionwithoutspendingpotential.The
chosenfreeresistisfixedandplayerscannotchangetheadvantagewithout
consultationwiththeGameLeaderandasuitableretrainingperiodfortheir
character.Aswithanyotheradvantageusedinanaction,itmustbeavailable
andbeappropriateforthesituation.Commonfreeresistsincludearmour,
weaponsandabilitiessuchasDodge.Thesearesuitableagainstsomeforms
ofattackbutwillbeinappropriateagainstotherdangerssuchasmagicor
poisongas.
Ifacharacterisunabletodefend
themselvesduetoashortageof
potential,lackingasuitablefreeresistor
beingunconscious,theyalwayshavea
resistancescoreofone.Notethisisa
scoreofone,notonedice,soa
charactercaughtoutlikethisisalmost
guaranteedtobehitbytheattack.
Theresistanceaction'sscoresetsthe
targetwhichtheattackermustbeat.If
theattackerscoreslessthanorequalto
theresistancethecharacterescapes
unharmed,butiftheattackexceedsthe
resistancethecharacterishurt.How
hurttheyareisthedifferencebetween
thetworolls,knownasthedegreeof
success.
TakingDamage
CharacterswhoarehurtbyattacksmustdiscardgreenLifeadvantagesby
placinganXorsimilarmarknexttotheadvantageonthecharactersheet.
Discardedadvantagesarenotavailableandmaynotbeusedinactionsuntil
theyhavebeenrecoveredviahealing.
TheinjuredcharactermustdiscardLife
advantageswhosetotalCPvalue
equalsorexceedsthedamage(the
degreeofsuccess).Theplayermay
choosetheLifeadvantagestheywishto
discardforthedamage.Aswellas
consideringtheCPvalueofadvantagesitalsoworthconsideringthe
usefulnessoftheadvantage.Sometimesitisbettertodiscardonehighvalue
advantagethantwolowervalueadvantages.
Playerscannotdiscardpartofan
advantage.Evenifjustonepointof
damageistaken,awholeadvantage
