Other software hooking to Tekla Structures 17.

0
Recently there have been cases where a 3rd party software has hooked to Tekla Structures 17.0.
This means that the other software grabs into Tekla Structures code and prevents Tekla
Structures from operating correctly.
The purpose of this Product Bulletin is to help you to detect hooking cases and to solve the
problem.
Symptoms

You can suspect hooking if you have the following problems in Tekla Structures 17.0:

Texts are missing in the user interface

Tekla Structures shuts down unexpectedly

Tekla Structures 17.0 will not start after installation

Hooking can cause the texts to be missing in the user interface. You may notice this
already in the Login dialog box.

Hooking may cause Tekla Structures 17.0 to shut down unexpectedly when you click the
Browse button in the Open dialog box.

Hooking may cause an application error during Tekla Structures 17.0 startup. The
application error message refers to failed initialization.

Hooking software

What are then the 3rd party software that hook to Tekla Structures? So far, Tekla has identified
the following software that could cause the hooking problem:

Detecting the
hooking software

Adobe 3D Capture, which is a part of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (acaptuser64.dll)


Mozilla 3 Virtual Keyboard, part of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009-11 (mzvkbd3.dll)
EMBASSY Trust Suite (ETS) Wave (wxvault.dll)
AVG Resident Shield (avgrssta.dll)
Avecto Privilege Guard (PGHook.dll)

You can use a software called Autoruns to find out which software is hooking to Tekla
Structures 17 on your computer. You can download Autoruns from Microsoft website for free.
After downloading and extracting the Autoruns package:

Start Autoruns by double-clicking autoruns.exe.


Go to the AppInit tab page.
The AppInit tab page lists all the software that are currently hooking and causing
problems.

tab page, or post your findings to Discussion forum > First steps >
General discussion - that way we can maintain the list of hooking
software.

Solving the
problem

There are two options to solve the hooking problem:

Clear the check boxes for the hooking software in Autoruns

In Autoruns, go to the AppInit tab page and clear the check boxes for the listed software.

Please note that you may need to repeat this step at least after every time
you start up your computer, but maybe even every time you start up
Tekla Structures 17.0.
Also note that clearing the hooking application may close down that
particular application.

Uninstall the hooking software

Another option to get rid of the problems caused by hooking is to uninstall the hooking
software. This option is worth considering if you actually do not need the hooking
software.
Always consult your IT department first before uninstalling any software
to evaluate the possible consequences of uninstalling.
