Eating of the art I want
A story of my life
I want to tell you about a group of theatre from Bogota. Its name is Velatropa, and
I also want to speak about my experiences in this group specifically, about a play
called "Comer Del Arte Quiero" actually, it is an "Public Act" that is a new genre
or kind of "play" of group.
The theater group Velatropa was born in 2002, with the direction of Paula and Lina
Sinisterra. In that period they proposed to develop an artistic exercise intervening
urban spaces focused generally in Performances, actions and plays. In July of
2002 they presented their first work in performance called oh Gloria as their first
artistic proposal for non conventional spaces.
In 2010 they presented their first Public Act on the facade of the Teatro Libre in
Bogota. This collective have participated in festivals like Iberoamerican fest in
Bogot, Alternative fest theatre, pure air and Manizales theater fest among others.
Then, in 2010 this group showed a Public Act" called Eating of the Art I Want".
During those days I was acting in this play.
I can say: that play has been different from others ones where I have worked,
because the spectator was witness of the process and development of that. The
group created this play in front of the spectator, it was really risky, because we
were hung and climbing the facade of the "Jorge Eliecer Gaitan" Theatre, in that
moment I could learn a lot of things about security with strings, acrobatics and staff
like that everything in a middle of the action. Finally, we developed a wonderful
aerial dance, in the same way, we worked with plastic art using different material
like candy and sugar cotton for the dresses and those costumes were created to
attract public attention furthermore, the pink color in the costumes was wonderful.
I learned in this experience: improvising and interacting with the public in the art
work, because this play has an open structure that allows the integration of the
group inside of that action or situation created.
Creating plastics works and giving them the importance to the aesthetics, because
this should match with the concept that is being worked in this case "eat from the
art, I want" because as the song that was composed for the play "worth more a
dog, than an actor dog" because in our country are few the actors that gets a
retirement and a decent life.
We learned body techniques like gestural and, aerial dance for that it can achieve
on facade of the Jorge Eliecer Gaitan.

The Public Act" : is do public the private, and is a proposal that creates an
artistic action of interdisciplinary character in which the body language, the music,
the plastic, board to viewer play an important role to concrete a Public act as a
different performance art. for the reason mentioned before I can say that: building
a situation in which public places serves like stage for creating an unusual play,
makes me think and take conscience about my daily life and my studies to
continue doing the same.
