Introduction
Textile industry is considered as the backbone of the Bangladeshs economy. However, after the
World Trade Organization (WTO) regime this sector is facing fierce competition in the
international market. Some of these companies are not performing up to the mark in comparison
to their competitors in the dimensions of competitiveness like timely delivery, consistency,
reliability, innovation and quality. According to ISO Quality: "The totality of features and
characteristics of a product or service that bear on its ability to satisfy stated or implied needs".
Productivity increases with improvement of quality. Low quality means high cost and loss of
competitive position. Crosby (1980, p.1) states, if we concentrate on making quality certain,
we can probably increase our profit by an amount equal to 5% to 10% of your sales. We can
achieve our best quality product by introducing TQM (Total Quality Management) in textile
industries.

The use of statistical process control and value-added analysis is also employed in this industry
of the textile value-added chain. Work-flow and cycle- time analysis is employed in companies
more advanced in their TQM system. Cross- functional teams in areas of customer service and
quality improvement are also used. The required quality of a dyed fabric can be meet/achieved
successfully through the implementation of effective TQM in textile dyeing industries which
ensure best quality of final products along with lower cost and higher productivity.
Conclusion
Globalization is an inevitable phenomenon. It is no longer an option, but a fact whether one likes
it or not. Countries like Bangladesh have to manage their economies skillfully, to face the global
crosscurrents.Without making fundamental changes in their management approach and
emphasizing on quality management textile companies cannot get their decent share from the
international market. So the effective implementation of ISO 9000 certification should consider
as the midway towards the implementation of advanced systems and models of TQM.
