History and Development

The PS3 was first announced at the E3 gaming conference in 2005. The initial prototype
revealed at the time had two HDMI ports, three Ethernet ports and six USB ports; these
were cut to one HDMI port, one Ethernet port and four USB ports when the system was
shown again at E3 in 2006. It was initially released with two hardware configurations: a
20 GB model at $499 and a 60 GB model at $599. Although originally given a worldwide
release date in November 2006, its release in Europe was pushed back until March
2007.
Microsoft began to develop the Xbox 360 in 2003. They held an event for 400 developers
to recruit support for the system, and hired Peter Moore, the former president of Sega, to
work on the project. In August 2003, ATI joined the development team to produce the
consoles graphic processing unit. The following month, IBM signed on to develop a
triple-core CPU. The console was in development for two and a half years and was
released in the United States and Canada on 22nd November 2005. It was released in
Europe on December 2nd and Japan on December 10th. In the first year after release, it
was launched in 36 countries.

Versions
The PS3 has been released in several different versions, with varying amounts of hard
disk space. The 20 GB model, 40 GB model, 60 GB and 80 GB model are no longer sold.
Buyers can now choose between a 160 GB system and a 320 GB system. There are no
differences except for the amount of hard disk available.
The Xbox is currently available in four different configurations: the Xbox 360 4GB
console, the Xbox 360 4GB with Kinect, the Xbox 360 250GB console, and the Xbox 360
250GB console with Kinect. There are no differences except for the amount of hard disk
available and whether or not it includes the motion control system Kinect.

accessible to developers; the seventh is used by the operating system.
The Xbox 360 uses the triple-core IBM-designed Xenon as its CPU, and has three 3.2
GHz core processors.

Graphics
The PS3 uses an NVIDIA RSX Reality Synthesizer, which outputs resolutions from
480i SD up to 1080i HD.

downloadable content, the PlayStation Store, where players can buy downloadable
content, and online gaming with other players. PlayStation Plus costs $49.99 a year,
$17.99 for three months, or $9.99 a month. The Network has over 90 million registered

Funny how every xbox fanboy uses the fact that we got hacked big
time. I'm sorry that we got hacked by the same people who hacked
into government databases. Xbox couldn't be hacked by those
people could they? They didn't attempt. It's ignorant of you to say
they couldn't hack xbox.

For me its security and xbox definitely beats out ps3 on that aspect.
Nothing but modders on ps3 and eventuallyy its going to lead to
another network hack.

My apologies. Let me be specific. The ps3 does not have 7 cores. It

has 'SPE's which are more like processors. Cores indicate the ability
to run any task for any application. Whereas an SPE can only do the
specific task it was created for. 2 cores can split the workload and
get it done. 2 SPEs cannot split a workload, instead they are like 2
separate processors being cogs in a larger mechanical structure.

I love how Xbox fans have to complain about how this website is leaning
more towards the PS3, its really just providing the statistics and information
about the qualities of both systems, not false information. PS3 is better
because they had a year to size up the competition and take their console
in a different direction to tap into a bigger market and get better sales.
Blu-ray, Netflix, YouTube, free multiplayer, memory. I mean PlayStation plus
is practically giving free games away along with unlimited storage data, yes
we do lag sometimes, and yes we do have some hackers(out of the 6 years
of playing online I have only joined 2 hacked lobbies and they were on call
of duty games), but what do you expect from something that is free. 1 thing
I've noticed that everyone seems to forget about is PlayStation home, which
is kind of like world of warcraft but with less fighting and more socializing. I
have played the Xbox and was not impressed whatsoever. the only thing
I've seen from the Xbox that I wished PS3 had was the voice chatting from
different games. but that is a hardship I will just have to live with, AND BY
THE WAY "it's not the system that defines the gamer, its the gamer that's
defines the system."

I have both. And exclusives are even some good some bad.
Personally I prefer xbox. Due to the fact that the ps3 takes soooo

Other than that graphically there is not enough difference. If
someone wants graphics buy a pc.
A true gamer buys all. Fan boys can suck me.

xbox is better than gaystation because it is very safe and all your
information can easilly be stolen and xbox has better graphics, speed, and
safer! playstation has been hacked recently and this has happened more
than one time. xbox has never been hacked yet because microsoft is a
more protected company rather than sony is a careless company who does
not care about the players xbox is much simpler to understand.my friend
figured out how to control it in 3 minutes rather than playstation has slow
connection and is difficult to get used to. you guys think you know xbox but
you guys are just using false information. i have a xbox and a playstation
and this is all true. but yes both xbox and playstation are good consoles
xbox is better you can use voice commands,go on the
internet, netflix, youtube, twitch, and more it is a safe enviorment and you
NEVER have to worry about getting hacked sony even got hacked but xbox
since it came out in 2005 never got hacked once and the graphics for xbox
feels like your actually in the game so when you have played both consoles
for atleast a month then come say something because i played both
consoles and this is 100 percent true so ya i prove my point im gonna play

7 of 8

http://www.diffen.com/difference/PlayStation_3_vs_Xbox_360
April 27, 2013, 1:43pm

Really the two consoles are equal, both have their strengths and
weaknesses, however I personally believe that the Xbox 360 is a
better console, and here is why.
1. The console - I have see in many posts that one of the reasons
why a PS3 could be better than a Xbox 360 is because of blue ray.
However after playing many games on both consoles, I did not see
any difference in graphics. Sure there were some games that looked
HD on the PS3, but that was the same with the Xbox. Unless people
are forgetting that there is a HD option on the Xbox, I don't
understand why people think that Blue Ray makes the detail of PS3
games better than those of the Xbox. Then there is also the fact of
PS3's easily breaking. I have heard many times from people that
Xbox's break a lot. THIS IS NOT TRUE! I have never in my life
known someone who has broken their Xbox. I have had my Xbox
for about 5 years now, and in that time it has unfortunately been
kicked around, dropped, stepped on and it still works perfectly fine.
However, I know of 7 different people who have broken their PS3
within 2 years. Now you're probably thinking that this is only
because these people don't look after them properly or have siblings
that broke it, but one of these people is a nerd (actual nerd), only
child who actually cleans his game disks after he uses them.
2. The controller - On many occasions I have came across people
who believe that because the Xbox controller is larger than a PS3's,
it hurts your hand. It doesn't, the Xbox controller was specifically
designed for the comfort and and accessibility of a gamer's hand.
The PS3's controller however is small which sometimes leads to
discomfort and is harder to use. Also if you think that a Xbox
controller's buttons tend to stick, then you are probably getting stuff
jammed in them.
3. Internet - Yes the PSN is free, yes Xbox live costs money, I myself
believe that Xbox live should be free, but I also believe that Xbox
live is better than PSN. This is the truth, and if you don't agree and
think that Microsoft is filled with Money hoarders than read this;
http://www.destructoid.com/how-xbox-live-is-blatantly-betterthan-psn-233346.phtml .
4. The games - Both consoles have pretty good games, PS3 has
games such as Uncharted, God of War and little big planet. The
Xbox has games like Halo (big fan), Gears of War, and crack down.
If you are wondering why I didn't put ratchet and clank down for
PS3 it's because after Gladiator the series just went downfall. These
are the best selling games and numbers of PS3; As of March 31,
2012-Grand Tourism 5 (7.43m), God of War III (5.2m), Call of
Duty:Modern Warfare (4.8m), Uncharted 3 (3.8m), Uncharted 2
(3.8m), MotorStorm (3.31m), Call of Duty: Black Ops (3.27 units),
Metal Gear Solid 4 (3m) and LittleBigPlanet(3m) as oppose to the
Xbox 360: As of April 19th 2012-Kinect Adventures(18m), Call of
Duty: Black Ops(12m), Halo 3(8.10m), Call of Duty:Modern
Warfare 2(7.48m), Gears of War(5m), Gears of War 2(5m),
Halo:Reach(5m), Grand Theft Auto IV(4.35m) and Call of Duty
4:Modern Warfare(4.22m). With this you can kind of see how a lot
of PS3 users aren't that much of gamers. Also the Kinnect was much
better than the PS3's move.
The reason why there would be more PS3 users posting on the
internet is because Xbox users are intelligent enough to not get
involved in a pointless and never ending debate. Also PS3 players
really suck.

First of all I should say I own a PS3

Hardware wise, the PS3 is easily the best. Easily. For games the only
Xbox exclusive i would've wanted was gears of war. Then i found
out it's on PC, so now i has nothing. PS3 has God Of War which is
phenomenal, inFamous and Little Big Planet.
PS3 has more space as standard.
PS3 has no online subscription fees AT ALL. To all those saying that
Xbox only has fees for gold and you can use it restricted, PS3 HAS
NO FEES AT ALL EVER DONE FINISHED THANKS BYE.
PS3 has BluRay, a far more advanced feature that Xbox's feeble
DVD drive.
PS3 has PS Move to combat Xbox's Kinect. This is the only area I
have to concede the Xbox has won. While using the Move is a joy,
Xbox's motion detect system takes the cake here.
PS3 wins. Easy.

Ok, so it seems that a lot of people are trying to prove that their
system is better with no real reason. Personally, I prefer PS3, just
because of the fact that mine came with an HDMI cable and my
Xbox didnt, so it's easier to play. But that's the thing, it's a personal
opinion.
When you compare the specs, the PS3 is superior in a lot of the
details. Free Internet is also a good thing.
Also, I really can't see why Xbox Live is more popular than the PS
network, Im on a family account with my uncle's email address
registered, so today I got a message telling me that the terms and
conditions had changed, I then found that I needed his password. I
couldn't access anything, only disc games because I couldn't log in.
We also struggled to set it up in the first place as I'd already used
my email for my local account, something which really shouldn't be
required. Whereas PS network has been find, I've even stayed
logged in since we set up my account a while ago :/
