Update
The 8th generation consoles, PS4 and Xbox One were released in 2013.
Hardware
Processing Power
The Playstation 3s CPU is a Sony, Toshiba, IBM-designed Cell microprocessor, with one
3.2 GHz PowerPC-based Power Processing Element and eight Synergistic Processing
Elements, the last of which is disabled to improve chip yield. Only six of the seven are
accessible to developers; the seventh is used by the operating system.
The Xbox 360 uses the triple-core IBM-designed Xenon as its CPU, and has three 3.2
GHz core processors.
Graphics
The PS3 uses an NVIDIA RSX Reality Synthesizer, which outputs resolutions from
480i SD up to 1080i HD.
The Xbox 360 uses ATI Xenos for its graphics processing, which has 10 MG of eDRAM.
Memory
The PS3 has 256 mb of XDR DRAM main memory and 256 mb of GDDR3 video
memory.
The Xbox360 has 512 mb of memory.
Accessories
Accessories for the PS3 include wireless controllers, the Playstation Eye camera,
headsets and a motion controller named Playstation Move.
Accessories for the Xbox 360 include a webcam, headsets for chatting, dance mats and
Gamercize for exercise, and its motion-control system, Kinect.
Reliability
The PS3 has a two-year failure rate of 10%.
The Xbox 360 has a two-year failure rate of 23.7%.
Online
The PS3 connects to the Internet for free through the Playstation Network using the
homeowners high speed internet account. Its features include PlayStation Plus, a
subscription service that gives early access to game betas, demos and premium
downloadable content, the PlayStation Store, where players can buy downloadable
content, and online gaming with other players. PlayStation Plus costs $49.99 a year,
$17.99 for three months, or $9.99 a month. The Network has over 90 million registered
users.
The Xbox 360 uses Xbox Live, an online gaming service that is available both free and
for a subscription. It allows users to join message boards and access the Marketplace to
download purchased or promotional content. The subscription service also allows
multiplayer gaming and costs $60 per year for an individual or $99.99 for a family of
four (The family pack has been discontinued as of 3/6/2013, and all existing family

Funny how every xbox fanboy uses the fact that we got hacked big
time. I'm sorry that we got hacked by the same people who hacked
into government databases. Xbox couldn't be hacked by those
people could they? They didn't attempt. It's ignorant of you to say
they couldn't hack xbox.

For me its security and xbox definitely beats out ps3 on that aspect.
Nothing but modders on ps3 and eventuallyy its going to lead to
another network hack.

Also, PS3 does not have Halo, which is one of the most epic video
games ever made.

and demon souls I guess they both have great exclusive by the way
killzone suck so does fable. it really depends do you want free

PS3 IS BETTER
183...57
I have both. And exclusives are even some good some bad.
Personally I prefer xbox. Due to the fact that the ps3 takes soooo
long to download and worst of all install games.
Other than that graphically there is not enough difference. If
someone wants graphics buy a pc.
A true gamer buys all. Fan boys can suck me.

Really the two consoles are equal, both have their strengths and
weaknesses, however I personally believe that the Xbox 360 is a
better console, and here is why.
1. The console - I have see in many posts that one of the reasons
why a PS3 could be better than a Xbox 360 is because of blue ray.
However after playing many games on both consoles, I did not see
any difference in graphics. Sure there were some games that looked
HD on the PS3, but that was the same with the Xbox. Unless people
are forgetting that there is a HD option on the Xbox, I don't
understand why people think that Blue Ray makes the detail of PS3
games better than those of the Xbox. Then there is also the fact of
PS3's easily breaking. I have heard many times from people that
Xbox's break a lot. THIS IS NOT TRUE! I have never in my life
known someone who has broken their Xbox. I have had my Xbox
for about 5 years now, and in that time it has unfortunately been
kicked around, dropped, stepped on and it still works perfectly fine.
However, I know of 7 different people who have broken their PS3
within 2 years. Now you're probably thinking that this is only
because these people don't look after them properly or have siblings
that broke it, but one of these people is a nerd (actual nerd), only
child who actually cleans his game disks after he uses them.
2. The controller - On many occasions I have came across people
who believe that because the Xbox controller is larger than a PS3's,
it hurts your hand. It doesn't, the Xbox controller was specifically
designed for the comfort and and accessibility of a gamer's hand.
The PS3's controller however is small which sometimes leads to
discomfort and is harder to use. Also if you think that a Xbox
controller's buttons tend to stick, then you are probably getting stuff
jammed in them.
3. Internet - Yes the PSN is free, yes Xbox live costs money, I myself
believe that Xbox live should be free, but I also believe that Xbox
live is better than PSN. This is the truth, and if you don't agree and
think that Microsoft is filled with Money hoarders than read this;
http://www.destructoid.com/how-xbox-live-is-blatantly-betterthan-psn-233346.phtml .
4. The games - Both consoles have pretty good games, PS3 has
games such as Uncharted, God of War and little big planet. The
Xbox has games like Halo (big fan), Gears of War, and crack down.
If you are wondering why I didn't put ratchet and clank down for
PS3 it's because after Gladiator the series just went downfall. These
are the best selling games and numbers of PS3; As of March 31,
2012-Grand Tourism 5 (7.43m), God of War III (5.2m), Call of
Duty:Modern Warfare (4.8m), Uncharted 3 (3.8m), Uncharted 2
(3.8m), MotorStorm (3.31m), Call of Duty: Black Ops (3.27 units),
Metal Gear Solid 4 (3m) and LittleBigPlanet(3m) as oppose to the
Xbox 360: As of April 19th 2012-Kinect Adventures(18m), Call of
Duty: Black Ops(12m), Halo 3(8.10m), Call of Duty:Modern
Warfare 2(7.48m), Gears of War(5m), Gears of War 2(5m),
Halo:Reach(5m), Grand Theft Auto IV(4.35m) and Call of Duty
4:Modern Warfare(4.22m). With this you can kind of see how a lot
of PS3 users aren't that much of gamers. Also the Kinnect was much
better than the PS3's move.
The reason why there would be more PS3 users posting on the
internet is because Xbox users are intelligent enough to not get
involved in a pointless and never ending debate. Also PS3 players
really suck.

Ok, so it seems that a lot of people are trying to prove that their
system is better with no real reason. Personally, I prefer PS3, just
because of the fact that mine came with an HDMI cable and my
Xbox didnt, so it's easier to play. But that's the thing, it's a personal
opinion.
When you compare the specs, the PS3 is superior in a lot of the
details. Free Internet is also a good thing.
Also, I really can't see why Xbox Live is more popular than the PS
network, Im on a family account with my uncle's email address
registered, so today I got a message telling me that the terms and
conditions had changed, I then found that I needed his password. I
couldn't access anything, only disc games because I couldn't log in.
We also struggled to set it up in the first place as I'd already used
my email for my local account, something which really shouldn't be
required. Whereas PS network has been find, I've even stayed
logged in since we set up my account a while ago :/
