FABRICATION OF PNEUMATIC CONTROLLED ELEVATOR

INTRODUCTION;
Microcontroller is playing a major role in the field of industrial automation. The main
aim for us to select this project work is to acquire practical knowledge in the field of
automation using microcontroller with Pneumatics. In this project, microcontroller is a
electronic control unit which is programmed using C or assembly language to work as a
automatic material elevating system using pneumatic system.
SYNOPSIS;
We selected FABRICATION OF PNEUMATIC
CONTROLLED

ELEVATOR as our project work and we have used principles of Mechatronics in


developing this project work..

In this project the materials are placed on a platform and

transported from the ground floor to upstairs using a Pneumatic cylinder . This cylinder is
controlled through the 5/3 solenoid operated directional controlled valve which is ON/OFF by
the microcontroller unit .Here one PIC 16F 870 Microcontroller is used.
There are three magnetic reed sensors placed at each floor for the purpose of stopping
the platform. The materials are transmitted from one floor to another floor by pressing the
switch in the keyboard.
WORKING PRINCIPLE;
Before operating this unit set the 5 bar air pressure in the FRL unit. There are three push
buttons fitted in the keypad and are connected to CONTROLLER input. These push buttons
are used to operate the lift to the required station. A 5/3 way double solenoid operated
Directional control valve is connected to the output of the CONTROLLER. CONTROLLER
controls the 5/3 way double solenoid operated Directional control valve to raise or lower the
job. To start the operation, switch the start button which sends the 5VDC supply to the input of
the CONTROLLER which drives the signal to the 5/3 way solenoid valve This valve actuate
the double acting cylinder which pushes the platform which carries the object to be lifted.
.A magnet is placed with the platform which activates the magnetic sensor in order to stop the
platform at the required position.to control the speed of the lift two flow control valve are fitted
at each port of the air cylinder.When the platform unit crosses the magnetic sensor , sends the
signal to the CONTROLLER which switch OFF the supply to the 5/3 way solenoid valve to
stop the cylinder.

Unskilled man even operate the lift.

Disadvantages;
Initial cost is high.
Frequent attention is required for repair and maintenance.
APPLICATION

It can be implemented in water washing stations and automobile repair carrage. Etc,.
Mostly used in places like Hotels, Office, Hospitals, Shopping malls Etc,.
Used in Industrial Area for Material Handling
CONCLUSION;

Thus by fabricating this lift unit , everyone can easy to learn and understand about the
industrial automation which involving sensors ,CONTROLLER and pneumatic
components. It is concluded that any automation system can be done with the help of
MICROCONTROLLER & pneumatic system.
