Preface

Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for Zinc-aluminum Alloy-Coated Steel Sheets and Coils (Bj.L AS)
is the revision of SNI 07-4096-1996 for Zinc-aluminum Alloy-Coated Steel Sheets and Coils.
SNI 07-4096-1996 was revised due to:
1. The improvement of technology for processing Bj. L-AS, in order to meet the demands of domestic
and export market.
2. Protect the final consumers in regard to product quality assurance.
3. Control of non-standard imported products.
4. Implementing National Standardization System, in order to evaluate SNI every 5 years.
This SNI was revised on the fields of:
Scope
Normative reference
Terms and definitions
Symbol, classification and applications
Quality prerequisite
Sampling Method
Testing Methodology
Pass examination prerequisite
Marking
This standard had been discussed in technical meetings, pre-agreements, and consensus meeting that
th
were held on December 5 , 2006 at Jakarta. Those meetings were attended by the members of Metal,
Steel and Steel Derivatives Technical Committee, producer and consumer representatives, testing
houses and related government instances. Later, this standard had been passed national consensus
process through poll on 28th of August 28th of October 2007.
This Standard is produced by 77-01 Technical Committee for Metal, Steel and Steel Products.

Calculation for Bj.L-AS sheets and coils mass

Calculation for Bj.L-AS sheets and coils mass, theoretically stated with M with kg mass unit :
Mother coil mass/m2 calculation is:
M= d
1000
with:
2
M is mother coils mass per m ;
3
is steels density (7850 kg/m );
d is steels thickness (mm).
2

Calculation of Bj.L-AS mass per m is:

m (Bj.L-AS) = M + coatings mass constant.
Example:
1) For a mother coil with thickness 1.20 mm AS 200;
M = 7850 x 1.2 = 9,420 kg/m
1000

2) Coatings mass constant for AS 200 = 0.2000 kg/m2;

2
2
3) 1 m Bj.L-AS mass = 9.4200 + 0.2000 = 9.6200 kg/m ;
4) Decimal place for this calculation is 4 (four) digits behind comma.

Sampling is conducted only by authorized officer, according to regulations.

6.2

Rolled Bj.L-AS with the same specification weighing up to 50 tons is represented by 1 (one)
sample sheet with 1 (one) meter length, subsequently every 50 tons fold will be taken 1 (one)
sample sheet, and at most 10 samples.

6.3

Bj.L-AS sheets amounting up to 3000 sheets with the same specification is represented by 1
(one) sample sheet. Subsequently, in every 3000 sheets will be taken 1 (one) sample sheet,
and at most 10 samples.

6.4

Sampling is conducted randomly.

Testing methodology

7.1

Visible nature testing

Conducted without using magnifying glass / microscope.

7.2

Chemical composition testing of carbonized steel

Mother coil carbonized steel chemical composition testing is conducted by using spectrometer or by
following SNI 07-0308-1989, Testing methodology of carbonized steel chemical composition.
7.3

Thickness testing of mother coil

The measurement of mother coil thickness Bj.L-AS is conducted after the zinc-aluminum coating is
removed.
It is measured at least by three in-line spots, 90 against rolling direction, one spot in the middle part of
sample, two spots at the outer sides, not less than 15 mm from both samples tips, using tolerance as
stated in Table 3 (Nominal thickness and tolerance of mother coil).
7.4

Dimension measurement

Dimension measurement uses measurement gauge with 0.5 mm accuracy degree.

7.5

Bonding and bend ability testing

7.5.1

Tested sample measure is 75 mm x 125 mm, taken transversally against rolling direction.

7.5.2

Tested sample is bended 180 and then the point of bend is observed. If there was no
peeling/cracking, then its bend ability is zero t (0t).

7.5.3

Tested sample is bended 180 and then the point of bend coating is peeled and then the
surface is observed. If there was no crack seen, then its bend ability is zero t (0t).

7.5.4

The first bend is called as zero t, then the second bend is one t (1t) and so on.

7.5.5

Testing results must consistent with Table 11.

Weight testing of zinc-aluminum coating

Coating weight testing is conducted on testing sample with three criteria:

7.6.1 Triple spot test two surfaces; conducted on three testing samples that derived from one
testing sample plate source (generally measure 300 mm x full width); one piece is cut from the center
part and the other are from both sides of the plate, yet not closer than 25 mm from each tip.
7.6.2 Single spot test two surfaces; conducted on one testing sample that derived from one of
whichever three testing samples from triple spot test.
7.6.2

Single spot test one surface; conducted on one of whichever side from triple spot test.

7.7
Tensile testing
The methodology of tensile testing is conducted in comply with SNI 07-0408-1989, Methodology of
metal tensile testing and SNI 07-0371-1998, Tensile testing gauge for metal.
7.8

Steepness testing

Steepness measurement is conducted based on below formula:

Figure 4 Surface steepnes

Legend:
P is waves length (mm)
T is waves height (mm)

10 of 13

yohane s a n

SNI 4096:2007
Steepness ratio is calculated with the following formula:
Steepness ratio = T x 100%
P
Specification of steepness ratio refers to Table 8.
7.9

Camber testing

Camber testing is conducted based on the following formula:

Figure 5 Camber
Legend:
P is the length (mm)
L is the width (mm)
K is the camber (mm)
Camber value (Kc) is measured using the following formula:
Kc = T x 100%
P
Maximum camber value is stipulated at pointer 5.7.
8

Pass examination prerequisite

8.1

Product lot is declared passing the examination if it meets all of quality prerequisites.

8.2

Should part of quality prerequisites can not be fulfilled, then re-examination can be conducted
with twice of testing sample amount from the same group.

8.3

If re-examination produced fully fulfilled quality prerequisite, then product lot is declared pass.
