DMV prep for test

Examinations taking place:

Notes:
First: seat belt
Types of signs:
- Red and white regulatory signs (no u-turn, no left turn, no right turn)
- White regulatory signs (no parking, one way, emergency parking only, keep right,
speed limit, etc)
- Highway construction and maintenance signs (yellow)
- Guide signs
- Warning signs (slippery when wet, merging traffic, divided highway, etc)
Traffic signs
- Stop sign: stop at the white limit line
- Three sided red yield sign: must slow down and be ready to stop if necessary
- Square red and white regulatory sign indicates that you must follow the signs
instruction

* Wrong way
- Yellow and black circular sign indicates that you are APPPROACHING a railroad
crossing
- X-shaped signs with a white background state railroad crossing: you must look,
listen, slow down, and prepare to stop if necessary.
- Five sided sign indicates you are near a school. Stop if children are in the
crosswalk.
- Four-sided diamond shape sign indicates that you must obey important rules
(warning signs)
- White rectangular sign: indicates that you must obey important rules
- Some warning signs have fluorescent yellow-green background.
Right of way rules: pedestrians always have right of way at cross walks
Speed limits:
- California highways: 65 mph. You may drive 70 mph where posted. Unless
otherwise posted, the maximum speed limit is 55mph on two lane undivided
highways and for vehicles towing trailers
- Around children: within 500 to 1,000 feet of a school while children are outside or
crossing the street, the speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Some
school zones may have limits as low as 15 mph.
- Blind intersections: 15 mph. Considered blind if there are no stop signs at any
corner and you cannot see for 100 feet in either direction during the last100 feet
before crossing. Trees, bushes, buildings, or parked cars at intersections can block
your view to the side. If your view is blocked, edge forward slowly until you can
see.
- Alleys: 15 mph
- Near railroad tracks: 15 mph within 100 feet of a railroad crossing where you
cannot see the tracks for 400 feet in both directions. You may drive faster if a gate,
flagman, or warning signal controls it

- Near streetcars, trolleys, or buses: no more than 10 mph. Applies in a safety zone,
or an intersection where a streetcar, trolley or bus is stopped and traffic is
controlled by a peace officer or traffic signal.
- Business or residential districts: 25 mph, unless otherwise posted
- Near animals: such as livestock, slow down and follow directions of the person
directing the animals.
